Restriction help

Hi i am 15 and have a KX250 that was used for closed curcuit racing, my dad has ridden it and it is very jumpy in gears 1,2 and 3 after that it is fine, what i am asking is where can i get a restristor for a 1990 kx 250 and how much will they cost (extimate) will it make a difference and what will it restrict it to.

1st question, Why would you want to restrict it?

You might be able to get one, but quite frankly its a waste of money.. If you want to ride it on the road when your 16 you'll be better off with a ped, or if you want to look "cooler" an RS50...

I couldnt give you on estimate on a price, but it would make a huge different (imagine bunging a solid metal plate into your exhaust pipe or blocking the fuel intake... it'd make a different wouldnt it..)

Sorry ive been more critical than constructive, but it seems an odd thing to do...

A quick check on the FI International website shows that you can't get a 33bhp restrictor kit for it which are the only restrictor kits which are made. You could pay somewhere to restrict the bike but you'd be much better off getting a bike of the power you want rather than restricting the KX. Why do you want to restrict it? Confused

Pah, get a GPR50 cheaper and more fun.
(in my opinion)

Derestriction can be awkward though, still trying to find someone who'll do it for me!

Its 250 two-stroke single, its going to be a beast of an engine. You'll have to learn throttle control. If its anything like a cr250 it will put up in 1-3 easily.

I wouldn't advise restriction as it wil quickly gunk up he engine as it won't be able to rev freely. BUT, the only way you could do it would be to put a spacer in the top of the carb, so that the throttle won't be able to open fully. The power valve is prob mechanical, so that will be hard to de-activate to tame the top end.

27yo kid - derestriction is easy on most derbis, unless they've got clever and put electric restrictors in the,. Check out the derbi forum for info.

no-one really seems 100% of what to do, I'm going home tonight to see if I can remove the restrictor in the air intake (or carb) but as for the exhaust, if I get a mechanic to do it it'll show on the stock exhaust, and I'm not really after that.

Besides, Its only done 100k and still needs to go in for its first service!

I have bought a new Honda CBR125 and had a micron exaust fitted, but the speed on mine seems to be very slow and have had numerous problems with it, radiator burst, choke working itself! and the air intake blocked, has anyone else got one and what year and speed do you get? also does anyone know a page which has the restrictor details on it or know where they are, please read this and reply as close to getting a black bomb rs even though i am told they are less reliable,

couldn't he just add a few more teeth at the back? lose some of that acceleration he really doesn't want/need?

I doubt a CBR would pull the gearing that well.

It's been cleverly advertised as a sports bike, by looks and its name, so people have bought it without realising its slow and crappy, and not a touch on the NSR, let alone an RS

I saw one in my local bike shop next to a CG125. The CG put it to shame.

I nearly had to kick it over, or put a cub90 in its place.

I have a 2004 gt comet 125 which is about the same price as the cbr and the comet runs rings round the cbr

not to mention it's a v twin!!! :D

Just so you guys know, spoken to my dealer "just out of interest" to find out that....
to derestrict the model of GPR50 I have all I need is the race exhaust which is around £35. I'll have to tweak it a bit like air intake etc but its all pretty much that simple apparently!
