Reserve

Decided to ride my bike to reserve. Now I've hit it, put the tap in reserve and it won't start!!!!
Sat by side of road waiting for wife needing a wee.

I can hear fuel in the tank but the way it stopped its defo run out. Any ideas?

Do you have prime on your tap lever put it to that for a min or so then put onto reserve it might fire up then

Just keep trying, the carb (assuming its a carb'd bike) will need to fill up again.

If it won't fire up after trying the above suggestions then it could be that the fuel filter in the tank needs cleaning.

Wife to the rescue, noted on the switching to reserve as it stutters, although easier said than done on a NSL in the rain!

As long as your reserve tap actually works I don't see the value in carrying reserve fuel. Unless your bike has a pitiful reserve tank?

The reserve gets me 30-40 miles on the CB500, there are very few places I'd go that have that distance between petrol stations. If I knew I was in an area like that I'd just fill up every 100.

I mean, all you're essentially doing is making your reserve tank bigger.

It feels a bit 'dodgy' to me to be riding around with even a 1L bottle of petrol stashed somewhere on your bike. The petrol tank is built to stand up to abuse. If you throw a litre bottle of petrol at the floor isn't it just going to explode, much like lighters do if you throw them hard enough?
