Say i bought a motorbike the same as my friends. Then bought a numberplate the same as his and put it on my bike (so basically my bike with his plates on. He is fully insured on his bike, it had m.o.t and tax.) The only reason i would get pulled would be if i was driving dangerous or something?

What would be the consequences if i was to get caught ?

Driving ban, license revocation, fines, potentially prison.

You should be worried about what happens after one of you has an accident, probably not about being pulled in general day to day life. You'd be riding without insurance, and bad things would probably happen when the insurance company finds out.

Dangerous driving would be an obvious one with regard the something (getting pulled)
1. Failed tail light
2. Failure to indicate
3. riding in a manner likely to arouse suspicion of the Police
4. being involved in an RTA (and then you'd be a world full of hurt from law, insurance etc)
5. If your bike is stolen AND recovered and Police turn up at your mates house to see the same bike with the same reg plate (he would be the registered owner / address of the plate on your bike)

In short the list is endless as to why you could get pulled over, Barrkel has told you what the consequences could be.
Assuming your friend was aware of what you were doing then he'd also suffer much the same consequence as an accomplice

Is the cost of insurance on the bike that much (in comparison to cost of bike) you'd be willing to risk a ban? A criminal record? Surely TPO can't be that bad?

Well, driving without insurance as a minimum, but I'm sure you can figure that one out.

Worst case is perverting the course of justice. That's a indictable common law offence where the maximum tariff is whatever the bench feels like throwing at you. Custody is the usual starting point.

Your "friend" should also kick your spuds into a bloody pulp because he'll be the one who receives any automated penalties, which is far more likely than being tugged by the fuzz.

Hopefully shot so theres one less retard on the road.

Someone was jailed for that in July.

https://www.birminghammail.net/news/top-stories/2012/07/11/dudley-driver-jailed-after-putting-false-plates-on-van-97319-31372317/

Lets face it, biking is a very accident prone sport, one could almost say its full contact with the amount of bike accidents. You have one of those whilst on your "mates" plates then your screwed probably by the following:

Riding with no insurance, No tax, no MOT, outside of the terms of your license, stolen plates... because if your friend agrees to allowing you to use his plates and admits it then he'll be screwed too.

Stupid question and dont fucking bother.

Do it, if you have to, but it's a bad idea long term, and you may stich your ' mate ' up inadvertently.

Incidentally, I've rated the question as "interesting", because it's given the opportunity to point out what a particularly bad idea it would be to carry out such a wheeze.

I heard you have a greater chance of being murdered by a family member than dying on a bike. I'm quite happy if Horsley falls foul to either of those fates if he is going to be such a pleb.

You may not get pulled, tell me, what would happen if someone in a car pulled out in front of you and you hit him? it may well be his fault but try explaining to the police why you don't have the right documents, you may walk away from it or you may spend 12 months in traction...no compo my friend...wake up and get some sense!!

On Saturday I was walking the dogs over at a park, I saw some kids all sat around this absolute _shed_ of an Escort in the car park with the world's worst music being played through the world's worst stereo at maximum distortion, I bet my wife that it wasn't insured, so I checked askmid on my phone, to my surprise it came up green, until I noticed it said "Ford Transit" - he'd clearly stuck on some fake plates to evade ANPR!

There really needs to be a 'fucktard' option in the ratings.

You'd probably not be able to ride legally for a very long time with resulting bans and the effect it would have on future insurance.

Also if you end up with a criminal record, it will quite likely affect your chances of getting a decent job in the future.

There may be some hope for me yet then Wink

btw, I went to school in Oswestry, you know the one. If I'd managed to get a bigger bike I would have ridden over to you for that fundraiser. Not sure I'd be happy on some of those roads on my 125 Sad
