Hi all,

Just signed up here as I will be buying a bike to use while Im off work so I don't have to use my smelly dog van all the time Laughing

Although I have always fancied a bike I never got round to actually getting my hands on one so Im a proper newbie.

Although Im 25 and can take the full test Im thinking of just taking my CBT and buying a 125cc to see how things go before spending loads but not sure.

From researching web I found a few common bike...

Aprilia RS

Honda CBR

Yamaha YZF

So you get the idea of what I will be looking for next month.

Any advice on what route to go down regarding test and bike welcome.

Cheers

Good idea going down the 125 route, although wont be as easy after January despite your age.

Crap bike choices though! Overpriced and slow, instead of just slow like any normal 125.

Welcome though Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

All cool looking bikes but they will cost you more than the standard commuter type of machine without really giving much extra for your cash. Nothing wrong with any of those bikes if that's your thing. Note that the Aprillia is a 2-stroke and will burn much more fuel than the others and will require more maintenance to keep going.

Why not? DAS then will be the same as DAS now, just on a 600cc+ bike. We may be back to a single test by then as well.

Sure, but bear in mind that prices for 125s may actually firm up next year - buying one now might not be an awful idea. Just don't drop it!

Welcome to the forum...

Have you really done your re search - if you want a lower matienence machine I would be temped to steer clear of the RS.

I would reccomend the CBR or YZF !

Good luck

Matt

Hi Groovemaster,

I currently ride a Yamaha YZF R125 "10 and I can't put it down apart from the price but I bought my second hand so was a bit cheaper.

It is a great learning bike, espically if you love sports bikes.

The mpg is amazing so I try to use the bike more than the car! Top speed isn't really a problem as I use in a city so not really problem but I have gotten 80 (just!) by going down hill and with the wind behind me Razz Plus, Im quite a hefty fellow as am a rugby player (no not a prop) Laughing lol.

Would definetly recommended it, espically if you like sports bikes.

Thanks,
Seth

What if say the OP wanted to spend a year on a tiddler. Whereas now he could get the restricted license, what about after January, I assumed he had to either work through the numerous tests and sizes or jump ahead but with paid for supervision / training to jump a 600.

Thanks everyone for your input, will probably change my mind on bike choice up to the day I purchase it but I won't rush into anything. Like someone mentioned I will stay clear of the RS, cheers!

Forgot to mention Im a short ass at 5'5 so need something not too big haha.

Think I will just take my CBT for now and run around on a tiddler and see how things go.

Will keep you all posted,

thanks again Wink

Check out the older Honda CBR 125 - They're nice little things, my friend gets 90mph out of his one, so it can sit at NSL all day long without a problem. Smile

Hope you find something that you're happy with.
