Quick reply as I can't get at the references is go north and west.

Search on here (use advanced search) for Scotland and you will get some interesting ideas.

Thumbs Up

North of Glasgow.

Avoid the A9.

That is all.

The Loch Lomond road is not great and you have to go through Glasgow. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it is dangerous. If you're heading that way, stick to the motorway as far as Stirling and hang a left.

I did a ride up and around Scotland, rained a lot but still some superb roads, and had a good weekend riding despite it.

Spean Bridge is a fav with me but really anywhere on the west coast the roads and scenery are superb...

https://www.whereistonynow.co.uk/scotland/sco10.jpg

I have a route map pictures and a link to the B&B all on a write up I did of the trip which you may find of value at https://whereistonynow.co.uk/wscotland04.htm

To add to my earlier post.
If you can avoid midge season.
That may mean avoid camping in forests and near where it's damp/boggy.
IIRC I was told a certain camp site on Skye is bad.
Midges are attracted to anyone hot and sweaty. They're also attracted to dark/black clothing for some reason. So that makes bikers particularly buggered.

I mention this as I get an allergic reaction to too many bites.

If you can't avoid midge season I suggest you take protective measures.
BTW the Scottish midge just laughs in the face of DEET.
Think of the Chuck Norris of the insect world, that'd be the Scottish midge.

What stinkwheel said. On the M9 Stirling is on the right. Once you have just past the castle look for a turn off that says Stirling and Trossachs. That road is the A84. Dont worry if you miss it as you can head up to Dunblane (4-5 miles) and catch it there. That road will take you north through some amazing roads. It will take you up to Loch Earn and the road will change to A85. Follow to Crianlarich and north on the A82, follow to Fort William. From there you can either kep going north to Inverness but the real magic is north of Fort William on the A82 look for the road A87 and head for Isle Of Sky. Play about for a few days. Take the road over the hills to Plockton, north from the Kyle Of Lochalsh. Bloody amazing roads.

The Sligachan campsite is what you're thinking of. An alternative campsite which is reasonably close by (the other side of the Island in fact Laughing) is the Glenbrittle campsite. It still gets midges, but not as bad as the Sligachan. It is pretty remote so make sure you've got food etc before you go there.

A good hostel I'd recommend on Skye is the Skyewalker as it's full of character and the staff are really nice. Thumbs Up Plus there is a pub in walking distance Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Also I'd recommend having a play around Torridon, some fine roads up there.

Listen to Stevie Googs. We,ve been every year for 12 years and the North West is awesome. Light/no traffic, hardly see a speed camera or police and stunning roads and scenery. Mind you, I,m biased, I LOVE Scotland.
Ps Hi Steve Thumbs Up

I probably should have used a different phrase, I don't need a photo to sell Scotland to me I already know it's the shiz.

One thing I've always wondered, how do you manage with Midges and a house when living up there? Just make sure the windows are always closed?

Pretty much i lived in Glasgow until i was in my 20s and lived in Ullapool going on 7 years now. I did wonder when i seen a builders wearing nets wtf was going on LoL, i hate the midges but to a certain extent they do a good job at keeping the human population down up here. Thumbs Up If there is a breeze its fine, its when there is no breeze the feckers come out to feast. Village life imho is much nicer than city life, people have much more time for each other here and much more friendlier, only issue is there is not much work here.

When i get hacked off with work or general pissed off i take a ride down on the A896 or up to Kylesku (top pic) and all the shite gets washed away.

I’ve only just left Ullapool. If I’d known you were local, Stevie, I would have dropped by and bought you a beer.

I woke up this morning on the campsite at Ardmair Point and decided to head for home. Too much wind and rain for biking, hiking and camping these last few days. All my gear was wet. So, 612 miles later I’m home and a bit knackered. Maybe I should have just checked into a B&B. Thinking

I’ll post up some video and pictures if they’ve turned out alright.
