WTF????

The Blood bank advertises for blacks only. I heard the court ruling is upholding it.....And this just after Woolworths was taken to court for the same thing.

and now they are running out of blood

https://www.iol.co.za/dailynews/news/appeal-for-donors-as-blood-stocks-run-low-1.1390411

I guess whitey and asians are voting with their blood and have stopped donating Laughing And they are trying to blame it on flu and ramadan Laughing The indians are a small minority, and less if just muslims ones ar considered, so i doubt indians not donating would have any significant impact.

Not quite. The SA blood bank was criticised for racial profiling, due the high incidence of HIV amongst Blacks (>25% AIDS). So they preferentially wanted white donors.

So not all blood is the same. Some is higher risk.

besides, that liberal rubbish we all bleed red is nonsense jingoism. Dogs and monkeys also bleed red. It doesnt make them the same.

Not sure if they did, due to time and cost. They used forms based on race and lifetsyle. Like eating habits, sexual habits etc and rejected high risk people. I think only recently did they start testing all blood for HIV. Like it last 5 years.

They say this

Quote:
The HIV/Aids pandemic in South Africa has focused particular attention on the importance of preventing transfusion-transmitted infection. In the past, strategies to promote blood safety tended to focus primarily on screening blood for transfusion-transmissible infections (TTIs). However, while systematic screening is essential, it is insufficient in itself to ensure the safety of the blood supply.

SANBS’ strategy for blood safety emphasises on an integrated three-fold approach. Effective quality assurance forms an essential part of this approach.

1. The collection of blood only from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors from low-risk blood donors and the use of stringent donor selection procedures;

2. The screening of all donated blood for transfusion-transmissible infections, including HIV, hepatitis viruses, syphilis and other infectious agents, and blood grouping, compatibility testing and processing of blood.

3. A reduction in unnecessary transfusions through the appropriate clinical use of blood. These include the use of intravenous replacement fluids and other simple alternatives to transfusion.

Their screening for high risk precludes many blacks due to high risk lifestyles. It was challenged in court a few years back as racial profiling
