I just did some massive speeding down the road and pulled up at a junction then neasrly jumped out of my skin when this guy came up to me from behind, turned out he was plain clothes brigade. "could you please pull up round the corner Sir" arghhhh shiiiiit busted!!!. So I pull up then he comes back to me and "sorry Sir our mistake we had a report of stolen bike matching yours but its not your bike, our apologies off you go" Phewwwww!!!!

Thing is, they must have seen me speed as i was doing 40MPH for about half a mile with practically no other traffic on the road except for me and the unmarked police car.

Made me think though about my speed I realy am getting too relaxed about speed.

if they've got bigger priorities they probably won't bother their arse. my neighbour got away with doing a wheelie, purely because as they were talking to him a woman got mugged. told him never to be caught again and off they went, blues n two's!

i get too comfortable on 40mph aswell. only since i've been taking lessons i've calmed it a little bit. only a little though Razz

Many many many years ago I was once stopped by the police in my mini. I had a friend riding on the towbar balancing a crate of beer on the roof. The police asked me to get out of the car. I opened the door and blam! The door fell completely off! "I think you had better get into the back of our car....Sir" then as I got in their squad car a call came through their radio regarding a robbery in progress "right we haven't got time to be dealing with an idiot like you, so get out the car" and off they went Smile

That's cute, I often do 50 in a 30 without realising because there's nothing around and it seems pointless and i'd have a car up my arse ramming me to the side of the road trying to get by else

I have a friend that got caught at 105mph in a 30. Wink

Police were stuck behind a car at the time, but easily saw what kind of speeds were being achieved..... Laughing

Did I mention this was on the wrong side of the road overtaking three cars?

Section 59 and sent on his way. Laughing Laughing Laughing

From now on I'm adopting the term massive speeding for 10 mph over the limit. If it's only 5, I'll go for MASSIVE SPEEDING!!!

So a random bloke in normal clothes walked up to you on your bike and ordered you to pull in and you did so on his word that he was a policeman?

What if his mate round the corner smacked you in the face with a baseball bat and took your bike?

I'd have ridden directly away immediately until such time as I was ordered to stop by someone who was identifiable as a police officer (ie. in uniform).

+1

But could they actually have you down for evading a police officer? How would that stand up in court? (If they managed to catch you later that is)

The statuatory power to stop motor vehicles is extended to UNIFORMED police officers. Non uniformed officers CAN stop you but you are not committing an offence if you don't. Nor should you be because how are you supposed to know?

"A person driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road must stop the vehicle on being required to do so by a constable in uniform or a traffic officer."
Road Traffic Act 1988 Section 163, paragraph 1

It's strange that he didn't take the keys out of your bike straight away. How many bike thieves are going to pull over around the corner? I reckon your talking bollocks

In my job I spend about ten percent of my week around coppers and the rest of the time with dodgers. I know the difference.

Then you should know that stopping for some random bloke shouting "Oi! I'm a copper!" is entirely voluntary, regardless of what bit of laminated paper he's sporting.
