I hope he doesn't either but he's not been particularly competitive at Mercedes... Maybe he'll try another car? Thumbs Up

Hamilton has shot himself in the foot over this one. He has stated he wants a front running car but yet leaves McLaren to go Mercedes who are a midfield team Rolling Eyes Seems to me that its all about the money...

Good news on Perez going to McLaren. The kid has a lot of talent and, if he can cope with the pressure to deliver results, he'll fit in just nicely. Ferrari had their eye on him to partner Alonso but all he would ever have been is a No.2 driver to Alonso whereas at McLaren he would be 'free to race' as it were.

Perez is still part of the ferrari academy though ( even though he shrugs it off ) and i can definitely see him at ferrari in a few years, maybe when alonso is gone..

They've sold lewis that they will be making a big push for 2014 when the regs change.

Perez at McLaren will be very interesting. This is good news. I hope he gets to be no. driver for them.

I reckon Lewis isn't following the money, he has enough. I don't think any of the top 12 F1 drivers would move unless they would get a decent shot at a world championship title.

As above it's due to Mercedes works team doing a lot of work on the 1.6 turbo engine for 2014, so he wants to get in there now. Also heard a rumour that McLaren and Mercedes have split as partners so McLaren won't be using the works engine next year either? Or something?

Customer and works engines are identical nowadays, unlike in days of yore when the works team would get the uprated units up to a year before the customers. The FIA mandates that all powerplants are of the same specification.

The issue is that the works team can build a engine to suit the car whereas the customer has to build the car to suit the engine they're supplied with.

It could be a minor issue or it could be enormous. There's no way of knowing until the 2014 cars first turn a wheel in anger. There's also no way of knowing whether the Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault or A.N.Other engine will be the one to have in 2014.

So, for Lewis, it's all a bit of a gamble. Remember, the only time the Brackley team (now Mercedes) won a championship was as Brawn GP in a year when they famously built a car to take the Honda V8 and then had to shoehorn in the Mercedes lump in the month or so before pre-season testing.
