PostPosted: 18:16 - 28 Sep 2012    Post subject: Ybr 125 rear tyre ? Reply with quote

Hi ive got a ybr 125 09 and the rear tyre is needing to be replaced im wondering what the cheapest solution is ? Its got a factory standard chang shin 90/90-18 on the rear.My idea is to buy the tyre on line remove the rear wheel and take it to a tyre place to fit the new tyre then put the wheel back again. My problem is i am having trouble trying to find the exact same tyre with the exact same tread pattern online any ideas ?

Thanks

Why do you want to put the same tyre back on?

Factory tyres are normally shite. Pick a decent brand instead.

£42 inc. delivery from here.

Have you tried ringing around local tyre places? I found that even with fitting+balancing+valve it was only around £15 more than the cheapest online price, for the same brand.

I don't think they put a huge mark up on the rubber itself and you may find the total price isn't that different if you supply your own tyre.

As above, get the Pilot Sporty. Nothing else comes close.

Another +1 for the Michelins, they have been great in the wet and were very forgiving to my cackhandedness with the gears in the first few weeks after my CBT.

OK, the YBR will never break any land speed records, but it is nicely reassuring to have a tyre under you that seems to take take all the stick you give it (intenionally or otherwise).

As a new rider this is great for the confidence! IMHO

Another +1 for the Pilot sporty. When I had a YBR it completely changed the road handling and subsequently my confidence. In my opinion Yamaha should just supply these as stock and have done with it.

Thanks for the advice. The front tyre still has lots of tread on it but is a factory standard is it worth switching this tyre to a pilot sporty aswell or just replace the rear tyre and see how it goes?

A set of two is only a tenner more, you might aswell do them both so they match in feel

just take it easy on them when they're brand new

Ok,Is having two different makes of tyres on front and back and different tread levels(ie one worn and one new) generally a bad idea ?

I use Michelin Pilot Sporty's on my YBR which is my winter bike.

I've found absolutely no problems as far as handling goes in the cold - right up to the point when ice begins to form Rolling Eyes

My only gripe is their relatively short service life.
