As far as I am aware if you pass your test now you're restricted to 33bhp for 2 years and then able to ride anything you want.
If you pass your 125cc test after the new directive comes in then your not able to ride anything but a 125 or 15bhp unless you take another test on a higher powered bike.
Take a look for yourself:
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v494/be1ly/biketest.jpg
You have to pass your test on your a 125 and then sit another test on a bike of at least 400cc in order to ride the next step up which is your max of 47bhp.
Want to ride an even bigger bike, like the R1 you wank over then you have to pass yet another test 2 years later on an even bigger bike.
So 3 tests to say your able to ride bikes. Only people that will benifit this is the government who get the test fee's each time you want to upgrade bikes and training schools because you will be required to use their bikes for each step.
TLDR version. Your wrong, do your test now. ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

So they're changing the rules again...
Will it still be over two parts or are they scrapping that?

Thing is, You have the paperwork to say your bike is restricted it would be down to the cuntstubble to prove that your restriction was taken out. That would involve them paying for a dyno and extra paperwork.
Tip, if your restriction washers accidently fell out of the bike dont ride like a twat and draw attention to yourself for 2 years. ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

Just 'out of interest' where would you get a certificate to say the 600+ cc bike I had bought had a restrictor fitted? Or not ____________________ YBR125 (SOLD) - CBR250R(SOLD) - CBR650F(SOLD) Current - Street Triple

If you know what to look for, you get it restricted and then remove the restrictor.

To be honest, I'm in no rush, I'm just weighing up the options before I jump into something. I'm torn between getting a 250cc for a short while or getting a bigger bike 'restricted'.
I know people say you'll get bored quickly on a CBR250 or ninja300, but I don't see the problem, if I do then I upgrade. I currently have no ncb on a bike so it would probably be better I get experience on the 250cc and then when I have 1 years experience and ncb, the 650cc bike might not be so expensive to insure. |
In the long run that option will cost you more. Buy yourself a CBR250 for a few grand or the new Kwak 300 ninja for a few more grand, the CBR will cost you the same as a decent "budget 600" of the same year (bandit (sorry paxo), SV, CBF, ER6N, XJ6 divi etc). Hell you can get a decent CBR600F for 1500-2000 these days. The insurance is cheap enough on these bikes. If anything the insurance will be less on some of them because they are not seen as "sports bike" where the CBR250 and the Ninja will be.
thepuma wrote: | I dunno yet, there are so many bikes to choose from its giving me a headache. But plan A for now is that I'm gonna go and sit on a few a Motorcycle Live at the NEC and hopefully get a better idea what feels good for me....I'm a short arse at 5 foot 8 so don't want a bike where I'm tippy toeing just to keep it upright when stationary. |
I'm 2.5 inches shorter than you and I ride a 1000cc bike. Its all down to your leg measurements. Sure I'm on tip toes when I have both feet on the floor but when have you ever seen a biker stopped at the lights with both feet on the floor? Normally one foot is flat on the floor and the other is on the pegs and for the test they recomend one foot on the floor and one on the rear brake.
You have the right idea in sitting on as many bikes as you can but your thinking "new bike" is all wrong. Go for an older bike. They are cheaper, theres more parts for them and there is less to go wrong with them. Get a run about hack to get the NCB up for a few years and then get a flashy bike. ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

If you'd have done your test on a 125 post January, then you'd have full licence to ride a 125 with no L's, a pillion and on the motorway FOREVER. You could pay for the lessons and bike hire get a 47bhp A2 licence, which restricts you to 47bhp FOREVER.
You have a 33 bhp restricted licence which becomes upgraded to a Full A licence in 2 years when the restriction expires. Then you can ride WTF you want.
Either find a bike which takes restriction well, restrict it, insure it and enjoy 33bhp for 2 years OR find an insurer that isn't such an arse, buy whatever bike you want, ride it home, restrict it if you want to be legal and ride how you want.
If you take the latter course, ride like an arse or have an accident and the non-existant restriction is called into question then you could end up in a world of shit, but that's the chances you take.
Those are the two paths. Choose wisely grasshopper. ____________________ Prize cunt

Paddy can do you one that "certifies" your bike to exactly the same legal standard, although it may cost you a chocolate hob nob.
On the licensing, it's a judgement call. The current 25kW license costs you a lot less to get if you do it on your own 125, and you can get your countdown to an unlimited license started now rather than in January.
In either case, I'd imagine your restrictors will "fall out" well before the end of the 2 year wait. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

It was always said that everyone desperately needs to get the tests out the way before January, but if you plan on staying on a small bike then it looks like its better to pass your test next year as you'd be allowed up to 47hp rather than 33 at the moment...that's a 50% increase almost. |
Two and a half faults in that logic;
1/ a>33 auto upgrades to full unrestricted A after 2 years
2/ A2 Wont be awarded for testing on a 125, but on a full 40-45bhp A2 bike 'DAS'Style
2.5/ There is, as YET nothing more than suggestion, raised by published age limit of 19 for an A2 licence, that even HINTS that there may be the possibility to do Direct Access to A2 licence... to letter of brussels bullshit, you would have to do A1 test first on a 125, then two years later, you might be eligible to do the A2 tests...
So rather than being short changed by a few bhp for a few months, you are actually getting to avoid TWO potentially expensive additional tests, or upgrade training courses, (if even that suggestion makes it to parliment) and you get, for testing on a 125, to jump on a bike with double the power.... not the same bike less L-Plates, and get your full unrestricted licence two or four years sooner.
Ie: rather than being short changed by 14bhp for two years, you are gaining, 18hp, while saving two more test points and four years to full A!
Far from being 'short changed' I think! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
