Getting the centrifugal oil filter nut off?
Before i even got this far i had to drill one of the 3 screws which held the cover on......They seemed to be made of cheese, however that wasn't such a bad thing seems as one rounded off
As for the oil filter nut......I ended up getting warped to cut some slots into an old socket. And yes it was cut to within 4000th of an inch.
Cheers,
Shaun. |

You can undo the three screws and clean the edge of the centrifugal filter,as crazymotobiker says they are made of cheese.you wont have to remove the big nut unless you want to sort out the oil pump, keeping the oil clean means that the pump, and filter dont need touching unless its rebuild time.just make sure the order of friction/flat rings are correct.
Evenly screw up the bolts and springs, make sure the operating pin(usually in centre of clutch bearing) is not worn, bent. When replacing the outside case it can be tricky to seat the gasket correctly and you have to make sure the case is screwed up with the clutch operating arm in the right position. This case contains high pressure oilways along its seam so its important that the case edge is clean and flat,an old bit of gasket will mean that the engine will be loosing its blood through the seam and you'll have to take the exhaust/footpegs etc off again to redo it,as well as running the risk of knackering the new gasket.Tighten the casing screws evenly. ____________________ nearly a normal tax paying tosser.......with ferrileness suzi100,cg125,cb125scb100n,cb175,cd100,cj250t,kh250,c15,125 bantam, super 6,rickman gs750,xt500,250rs,dt175,lifan125,dolomite1850,metro,Morris220ld,morrisfg,leyland princess, range rover, corsa,vw camper .now struggling with legs. Changed one on a '01 CG125 ES only a few weeks ago in a cow shed, on an island near Shetland whilst in a gale force 8*. As long as you have, or can make the special tool to take the oil spinner off it's really quick and easy, I didn't even bother taking the exhaust off, the cover and footpegs wiggles off nicely.
*Ran it on too thin oil, it ran totally dry somewhere near Aviemore on a ride from Cambridge to the Island of Fetlar, linings now glazed the clutch slipped badly. Tried to head for the cheaper hotels of Inverness, the stupid bike just kept on going, all the way to Thurso and the Ferry to Orkney, across Orkney for the Shetland ferry, across the whole of Shetland, the island of Yell, and rolled off the Fetlar ferry and refused to move any further. Should have told it the house address as the destination not just the island, my fault that one. |
