Today was a good day on all accounts. Not only did I have my first solo ride, but that ride was to a garage, where the little CG that I bought earlier this year and have slowly been putting back together since, passed its MOT!

I have to admit, I was pretty nervous before the ride, having not ridden a bike in over a year since doing my CBT. That said, once over the initial wobbles, I felt fairly good about it all, and had a nice ride through some suburbs, 50mph back roads and town centres, so covered most bases. Can't wait for my insurance certificate to arrive now, so I can get out on it properly.

My first 'proper' lesson is coming up on Sunday too, by way of a fairly intense 9-5 session with the riding school I did my CBT with. Beat the third directive laws? Challenge accepted! Cool

That's quite a boast, and well deserved it sounds!

If you have a policy number and your insurance period has started, you're covered Thumbs Up Unless you went to the garage uninsured? Wink

No, actually, you're not. Technically, the certificate has to have been "delivered", whether by snail mail or electronically.

I doubt you could find a copper anywhere who would give a stuff as long as it's on the MID or if the insurer confirmed it, but there's a theoretical chance of running foul of a foul one.

Ah, this happened in my case - I received the cert almost instantly. I assumed the policy number was the operative part. Seems like a situation one could wriggle out of though, after a bit of hassle!

Ah, I didn't know that at all! When I bought the insurance yesterday evening, the chap I spoke to said I would be insured as of midnight, and to expect my cover note etc. within 3 days. Sadly, however, my inability to ride lies in the fact that it isn't taxed, and I can't buy a disc until I have documents to take to the Post Office or they update the MID. Sad

On the bright side, it does force me time to practice my theory questions for next week!

Nope, if push comes to shove, the certificate of insurance is ultimately what matters.

However, day to day, it's being on the MID that'll stop you getting tugged.

In good news, I've just received my insurance documents in an e-mail, so all sorted there. Unfortunately, I won't be home in time to make the post office tonight, but tomorrow, it'll be taxed and ready to go. Might even brave the ride in to uni...
