Hi guys, just bought a RamAir race pod air filter for my 1991 Honda MTX 125 and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on appropriate jetting for this filter as im sure it will need more fuel, just not sure how much! i dont have a clue what the standard jet is but maybe someone here does! cheers guys! Chuck the filter way, putting pod filters / foam jetting always puts the jetting off, your best way would be to use the standard air box, and drill maybe a couple of 8mm holes in the top, the MTX
Uses the same engine as a NSR and the NSR's can be air box modded.

If your looking for a cheap ish ish performance gain, I would look into buying carbon reeds, it's more throttle response than a speed increase.

If your still wanting to use the Pod filter I would go 5 up on your standard main jet, if that doesn't work go up 10 and start rich and work down towards lean, NEVER make a 2 stroke lean, do plug chops to determine if its rich / lean, warm bike up, go for a long run, hit the kill switch, roll to a stop, take Peter the plug out, then if its brownish, coffee color its good

If your still having trouble the needle notch may come into it.

Good luck !

Matt

Right, on the side of your MTX carb their will be some numbers,

Should be PHBH something ...

https://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/Carburetor_parts.asp?CategoryID=2

Then you will see links on the side, click your model carb, then look for main jet part, then buy 5 main jets then work your way down.

Their a very quick genuine service !

Good luck bud

Matt

Sorry I must be mistaken, my friends Honda MTXR had a delorto but it must have been a upgrade on the standard set up.

I agree with Iain in some areas,

I would go with - de - restricting it if it hasn't been done, get some carbon membranes, £30 off eBay, easy to fit. Also I would go with the sporty pipe, something like a Arrow or something, maybe a bit hard locating a expansion chamber / downpipe as they've all gone rusty as people don't look after the buggers, a new one would set you back at £200 + for a full system.

Plus I wouldn't have a pod filter on MTX as its a off roading bike I would be temped to take it green Laining and get the bike soaked. If I did that with the pod filter on, the engine could be sucking in water.

Good luck

Matt

By all means its a good product " if " you have the patience to fine tune it to work with you bike & set up.

If you don't take it out in the wet, have got enough money to put it on a rolling road or have the patience to fine tune it. I would keep it.

Its only a foam filter anyway, its only going to make your bike sound like a bean in a can, to a golf ball in a can. ( deeper grown )

You may see very little gains at the bottom end rev range if that.

Good luck with all your work, post pics in show & tell.

If you follow Matty Kings suggestions you are a fool.

Matty.

You are making suggestions that you can't back up with experience and if it doesn't work will cost the person money to put right. Of course I could be wrong and you could've tuned a few 2smokes but I doubt it.

Thing about this place is you shouldn't open your mouth unless you have a good idea of what you are doing. The aim is to save people money, not make them spend more through fucktardery.
