Be changing the engine on the ZZR. I have the workshop manual (finally), and I have 4 1/2 days off, so it's time to get it done!
If anyone feels the burning desire to come and get thier hands dirty (or come and laugh at me) then I would be more than happy to see you. Food/Beer/Beds will of course be available to anyone that does come, as will a whole range of expletives you've probably never hear before!
Wish me luck, and I'll be putting photos up here throughout the process (I hope). ____________________ I spend all my money on bikes and beer, the rest I simply waste! |

Have fun! Lots of sweating it out then. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. OK- time for an update.
So far everything has been going according to plan .
All the fairings and the petrol tank came off first - that was the easy part done. Next it was time to remove the radiators (oil & water), this resulted in a wonderfully slippery mixture getting spilt on the floor .
Once this had been cleaned up, it was time to start on the exhausts. Both mufflers came away nicely (although one bolt snapped), and the downpipes came away from the manifold without any problems - although all 8 nuts need to be replaced as they are rusted to buggery.
Next came the realy fun part - the carbs. These were more than a bit tricky as there wasn't much room to operate, but with a little patience, alot of swearing and the loss of a 3mm alun key, they came away very easily.
At this point, the light was starting to get crappy, and MrsH had got home from work so I called it a day. I have some pictures that I wll put up here as soon as I've downloaded and edited them
All in all a sucessfull day - lets hope it carries on this way. ____________________ I spend all my money on bikes and beer, the rest I simply waste! |

So what happened to the allen key?
Did you have a tantrum like I do and throw it as far as you possibly can and then spend hours looking for it again? been there, done that
I find walking away and having a fag helps
Oh and for the benefit of you guys in the USA that means smoking a cigarette NOT giving another guy one up the rear ok |

Oh yes! how many times have i done this. The other thing that seems to happen to me is what ever tool i need, say a 5mm alen key, there will be EVERY other size imaginable except a 5mm. Then when youve just finished bodging it with a 5mm size bolt, 2 nuts locked together, and a spanner, the first bit of paper, toolbox, whatever you pick up, there is the bloody 5mm allen key!!

Unfortunately things didn't go quite as planned over the weekend
No problems with anything that I managed to get done, but 3 days of crappy weather put paid to the rest of the work. I now have to hope that the weather is better next weekend, and that I can get the majority of the work done then.
As for the fate of the alun key - no, I did not have a tantrum (Come on, I'm a hippy, I don't loose my rag). I managed to drop it when I was removing the carbs, and it dropped into the depths of the engine outer bits (technical terms see ). ____________________ I spend all my money on bikes and beer, the rest I simply waste! |

the one thing it shows though, why as motorcycle entusiasts do we have to suffer so many stubbon bolts/ snapping stripping threads/heads etc... the Japs obviously dont want anyone to tinker
allen sockets for the socket set are a godsend
good luck with the rest of the job ____________________ "still no idea where poohsticks bridge is"
