A little question to anyone that have ridden one on the road: How capable are they for commuting?
I'm kind of curious because I've seen few of them a while back whilst on a ride,
and to me it seems like an awesome alternative to having a car.

So yeah, are they any good? Thinking

No, a good alternative to a car for commuting is a bike . .

Sure your sitting there feeling cool and different on your quad in the mornings . . . . but you're still sat there, stuck in traffic cos you can't filter !

Waste of time. Only place a quad is really worthwhile is on the dirt.

IMHO.

Shit on the road.

Downsides of a car and bike rolled into one.

Bastard to insure. Cost loads to run. Magnet for theives.

I'd have a road quad as a toy, but not really for anything else.

To me anything that will allow me to get around whilst avoiding sitting in
the cage (even if I sacrifice filtering) is awesome, hence my question.
Your opinions are appreciated guys. Thumbs Up

What the fuck is wrong with you? You don't like being warm, dry and not having to change at your destination?

There is also the gnarly problem of looking like a total cock...

Sorry, they just do.

I looked into this for non-bike transport with a Tiny Person.

As above they are very expensive to buy and poo-pants-bum to insure. Our car was a much cheaper option.

However. . . . .there are a couple scooting about down here and i am always consumed with envy Sad If money was no object i'd have got one instead of a car.

I don't really get them.

All of the impracticality of a bike and none of the practicalities of a car plus the heightened insurance, easier to steal side of it.

They might be shit on the road but I reckon they'd be awesome fun as a toy to ride around on the road, down green lanes and when it snows just hooning about.

Open the windows?
Maybe get a soft top?
Or even a no-top kit car.
Still makes more sense than a quad for road use.

If you've got a bike, can't see any reason to have a quad really.

Ok, in really nasty snow they'll do better than your average bike - but you could get a bike that'll work with snow/be adapted to and have the best of both worlds.

What chalky and G said really, completely pointless to commute on...
Only thing I'd have one for is the snow. Would be sucking sick ! Don't have to worry about falling off as much.

Ewwww Sick
To echo the others;
No weather protection and no filtering = no point as a commuter.
And you do look a dick.

Get a bigger/better luggage system for your bike, then.

Even with panniers that make the bike overall a smidge over 1m wide, can still more reasonably filter on the bike than a quad (for a start the panniers can over hang pavement etc.)

I've not got much against them really, I see it as an alternative to a convertible car but more fun and probably cheaper too, sure - no weather protection, but real men don't worry too much about the weather. They're a hard-core version of a soft-top.

I nod to quadders and they nod back usually Wink

Doubt I'll ever get one but they aren't too bad of an idea.

Yes but convertible cars actually corner Wink

One of the most fun vehicles I've ever controlled was a three-wheeled Robin Rialto and that didn't corner well either Wink

Quads on the road? The quickest and best way to look like

A: You can't pass and/or too much of a pussy to ride a motorbike.

And/or

B: A chav (or whatever the kids call them these days).

I do just assume the person riding it is a complete cock and is probably the proud owner of a ASBO.

I reckon a moke would do the same job as a road legal quad but be way more fun.

When it rains you get wet, when there's traffic you get stuck in it.

Agreed.

You'd also look endearingly eccentric, dare I say even a touch fashionable.

As opposed to a cock.
