Just thought I'd share with you; I've found a supplier on eBay that sells pretty decent (so far) kevlar jeans, for £45 inc P&P.

I figured I'd give them a go, when that £5 off anything voucher came up, so ordered a pair of the standard blue jeans that they did. I've only really used them for one day so far, but they're comfortable, feel well made, have decent stitching, and the kevlar coverage is better than on the draggin jeans I've got.

They're not as good as the Sartsos for the amount of kevlar used, but they're a third the price, so it's not like I've got any viable complaints.

I'm particularly pleased with the fact that they don't have the normal 'designed for orangutans' problems; my Sartsos are too long in the leg, the Draggins are far too tight across the thigh, and both of them have got crap stitching around the crotch.

They also have a set of those foam-based knee and hip armour plates with them, which are surprisingly unobtrusive when fitted. They're also a comfortable loose fit, without becoming massively baggy, which is a plus. This rather awkward photo was taken with the plates in their respective pockets; as you can see, they don't leave you with weird bulky lumps all over the place.

All told, for the money, they're unbeatable, in my opinion.

Look good mate Thumbs Up

I was wondering things like this aswell. The training school i'm doing my tests with also sell bikes and kit, and they have two different pairs of kevlar jeans for under £50 a piece. I was tempted but it got me wondering, is it a case of they're worse made or...

I may buy them and see!

I'll give these a go when I have a bit of dosh Thumbs Up
I have a pair of Halversons/ Lindstrand fokkers, and whilst they are comfortable and offer good protection the armour is bulky and they're brown camo, so not so casual.

good post! been looking at the same ones, albeit a different seller: see here linky

have held off getting them for no particular reason but after reading this i might just get them

one question: what is the fit like, you say they are loose without being baggy, but what waist size are you and what size did you order, ie did you order a slightly bigger size for comfort (like i was thinking of doing)?

cheers in advance Thumbs Up

Thanks for the info.
Have put on watch list as maybe useful for my lad.
He doesn't like wearing 'proper' bike gear as when he's out and about with his mates it's too hot, restrictive, naff, or whatever other excuse comes to mind.

Nothing for the "fuller figured gentleman". Sad

I sympathise with your predicament.
However, as my wife pointed out, I've always been meaning to diet for Christmas haven't I Shocked

I'd be interested in how accurate those sizes are. For bike gear I've found sizes to be wildly different from one manufacturer to another. Also depends on the cut for trousers, sometimes the stated waist measurement is either too big or more likely too small for me.

Well, I bought the 38" waist ones, and given that I'm about 37-38" around the waist, it fits with remarkably little fuss. The 32" leg is a little on the long side, but other than that, the sizing seems fairly accurate.

Are they made maybe a bit longer so they're not up round your shin while riding ?

I'm pretty sure that this is the case. It wasn't a massive issue, just that it tends to gather a bit around my boots, is all.

+1 Agreed

They are better off a bit too long (most kevlars come like this) so they don't flap around in the wind.

If n.e is willing to put them upto the Draggin' "drag test" I'll happily pull him behind my bike. In the interests of science ofcourse. Thumbs Up Laughing

Look good the money, but I find it hard enough getting normal jeans that fit. 28" waist, 30" leg.

If someone buys me a pair in which to do the drag test, then yeah, I reckon something could be worked out. I reserve the right to let go of the rope if I feel my arse being eaten by the tarmac, though.
