Suzuki TL1000R user info & reviews please?

Whats this bike like to own and use everyday as its playing on my mind and i am curious about it.

Things i want to know are like:

How many miles from a full tank riding just in town until reserve & how many miles from a full tank until reserve when riding on the motorway?

Is it easy to work on servicing/repairs?

Does it have a petrol guage as in when you get to reserve a light comes on?

Wont ask if it handles great as the answer is yes and i know its a heavy bike.

Is there good storage space in the seat compartment and is the undertray in there made from plastic as it needs to be strong enough to hold a chain?

Is the seating position much more comfortable than my 08 R1?

As for fueling if i did get one id get a pc3 or pc5 straight away so wont ask about that one.

Is there more low down torque as compared to my 08 R1, as top end means nothing to me its all about the useability of torque from 0mph to 90mph as triple figure speeds mean nothing to me no more that buzz is dead?

Used to own one Woo, probably gonna sell the Gixxer and get another.

Not bad on fuel, not like an SP1 anyway, the fuelling as standard is alot better than the Honda too, but i believe with Suzuki you can just re-program the ECU.

They are big bikes but surprisingly easy to ride, i believe i used to get 110-115 to reserve, no fuel gauge just a light.

Motorway you will be getting 130ish id say.

Much more comfortable than a modern sportsbike, with heaps more space to store specially if you use the 'hump'.

It will actually probably feel faster than the R1 day to day, my gixxer is so smooth and boring untill you get to the top end.

I hammered along the road beside one on my Firestorm and to be honest. I thought it would have been a lot faster but there wasnt really much in it up to about 110. After that my storm started falling behind.

Made me glad I got the storm when I was looking for either the TL or the Storm. I was 2 up when I raced the guy. My nephew was on the back.

I do think they are great looking and sounding bikes with the V2 grunt.

anyone know any dealers in south london or just london or a little bit outside the M25 like 30 miles that have any Suzuki TL1000R's in their showroom?

I am desperate to see one in the flesh and if lucky have a test ride!

Tried google searching and not having the best of luck finding any apart from one in chelmsford but he cant do test ride this weekend bah!!!

Very rare to see one in a dealers... I've not seen one at all. Most are private.

I love mine, had it for 4 years now and pu 68,000 miles on it.
Very easy to work on (have stripped and rebuild it completely twice) Loads of room under the seat hump for a chain, I managed to get 10 cans of stella under there.
On a hoon you will get 100 ish miles to a tank, 130 on a motorway.

With a better rear shock and 180 rear tyre they handle alot better than standard. They are VERY comfortable compared to modern sports bikes, I did 400 miles in a day on mine and felt fine after, mate on his new gsxr was crippled for 2 days after tho!

I would also suggest getting crash bungs, the panels are very thick plastic and crash well but are very expensive to replace.

The only way I will sell this bike is if I cant get parts for it anymore.

Buy one, you wont regret it. If you can justify a ride to bristol you are welcome to have a go on mine but it is far from standard.

Great thread. I'd love one of these machines as my next bike. I love the looks and the sound, but there are 2 things that put me off...

The first is that it is getting harder to find low mileage, looked after TLRs. And secondly, I'm not sure if I could trust myself on such a powerful machine - maybe I'll feel more satisfied thrashing a sports 600 at slightly slower speeds.

The other thing that a TL has going for it, is that you get the feeling that it will be a bike that will turn heads as it ages, and even in 10 years time, you'll still feel unique riding it.

well now i am a pround owner of a Suzuki TL1000R!!!!

Called FWR motorcycles to see if they knew anyone that had one for sale and they said yes and met the guy at their store today after work as he knows the staff and he let me test ride the bike and i love it!

For so little money you get so much bike! (£1650 is not little money by the way its just in comparison to my my R1 which is £5000 and to me £5000 is a heck load of money!)

So i gave him a deposit there and then after the test ride and will pick the bike up monday.
Just now need to strip off all the extras off the 08 R1 then sell it

My friends are gonna be like what the heck have you done as they all ride R1s but i dont care time for a change!

I cant believe how much space there is in the seat compartment i feel like i could move in and live inside it, the torque is lovely just wanna get a pc for it and and a tre and a good clean and its ready to ride!

I love the fact that for £1650 you get so much bike its unbelieveable

Only downside is that its in kilometers so i guess its an import but for £1650 i dont give a damn!
The mileage says 12700 kilometers whether thats 100% real or not i still took it happily!

I also cant believe how comfortable the seat is wow my R1 seat feels like a slab on concrete compared to it

Honda SP 1 & 2's still demand over £3000 whereas the TLR is from £1500-£2500

Plus with the Honda SP's you HAVE to have a PC to sort fueling plus the tank range i keep hearing is dreadful 80miles till reserve on town riding!

So where was the dealer located? I'm in south london too and have been keeping an eye on all the bikes listed on autotrader.

the bike was not from the dealer but they have a mate who just helps them out from time to time and he was that mate just so happens when i called them from work and told them i was after a tlr and they told me about him i asked them if they could contact him and meet me at their shop FWR in kennington.

They are a friendly quality bunch of lads who have always done there best to help me out since 2004

If i won the lottery FWR would be one of the shops id wanna invest in so it never goes under like so many have also the bakery in charshalton and old coulsdon so they never close hardly any proper old school bakerys left not this nonsense donut you get from tesco and sainsbury!

Make sure you get the seat hump and cans with it if he has them!

Id say the mileage is wrong but for that price I wouldnt care too much! Check the lower radiator for leaks, headstock bearings for wear.

Im happy to take a good look over it and help you service it
