I have come to the decision that I should get rid of my NC29, It was my first big bike and I had all intentions of keeping it forever and probably/eventually ratting it. But the engine has lost compression in one cylinder and it is going to be too expensive to fix.
Do you think I will earn a lot more by breaking it rather than selling it as spares or repair?
If I do break it I dont know if ebay is the best place to sell or are there any other sites that anyone could recommend please.

What experiences have you had when breaking a bike?

That is an option that I never considered. And if I'm honest it was my "dream bike" I still love to just look at it (yeah that makes me sound like a knob) , It isn't the comfiest riding position though and I'm not getting any younger Crying or Very sad

+ I have a couple of things that I'm saving up for so the cash would come in handy.

Don't break it, +1 for above

Get another engine off eBay and use your engine for spares Thumbs Up

Breaking option isn't as easy as you'd think, Planning to break my cbr600 but had no luck with any sites at all so far, ebay it is!

As a rule of thumb it seems that the further you break it the more you make but the longer it takes.

I broke a car a couple of years back and while in the long run I made more money than I would have done selling it as is, given the hassel and time and effort involved it would have been easier just to fix it or flog it as a whole car. I was still left with some parts which I just ended up taking to the tip.

With it being your dream bike I'd be doing my damnedest to keep it and fix it and find something else to sell if I was short of cash (Been there, done that!)

You will make more money breaking it, and you will be left with a pile of shite no one wants. But you will have still made more money than selling it as a going concern.

I've been down this route myself with cars. The above advice is spot on, the hassle of breaking it, posting bits/waiting for people to turn up and being left with a pile of sh*te is hardly worth the extra effort than selling it complete as it is.

Unless you really have the heart to repair it, keep it and maintain it afterwards you might as well get rid of it rather than keep it. Once its gone its one less thing off your plate and can be quite liberating.

Thanks for all your advice, It's definately given me something to think about. I have come to the conclusion that whilst breaking it it has the potential to bring me more cash, but being realistic I havent got the time or patience to piss about with breaking it.

They are such lovely bikes, I would be happier at the thought of it staying on the road. I should start to look at advertising it somewhere, If i dont get a half decent offer I could consider it as a project of my own in the new year.

As for pics I will get some sorted

Cheers guys! Thumbs Up

I've been looking on the flea bay for engines and found a couple between £200-£399.
Thing is, the most expensive one has plenty of pics and more importantly one of them had what looked like a serial no. that had NC23 in it? (even though it was advertised as a NC29). Chances are when I could actually afford a replacement engine I could end up with a dud Confused

You could always look for a complete bike and use the rest or sell as spares Question
