Ive been looking at several local companies that do DAS courses and timescales vary between them for what they think a DAS should take. One company states if you have 'some' riding experience then its a 3 day course... CBT followed by mod 1 and mod 2. So does that mean the training for each mod is done on the same day as the test?!

Another company says if you have a CBT you should consider a 5-6 day course instead of 7. Big difference over 3 days.

Obviously big reflection on price between 3 days and 6.

How much experience riding did you have before DAS?

I had ridden a 125 for 6 months, and did 3 days DAS - two training and then both tests on the last day.

If you have no experience, i.e. not even CBT, then 3 is probably a bit short - but it's so difficult to generalise about this as everyone learns different things at different speeds...

if you had failed mod 1 would mod 2 automatically be set back untill you passed mod 1 or does it mean youd have to pay for it all again and rebook?

I'd been riding for oodles of years before the DVLA forced my hand and changed the laws, so I did 3-day DAS with CBT. Thumbs Up

I had never ridden a bike ever, until I thought I'd do a CBT for a laugh. Got hooked, and did a 3day DAS. I have been driving a car for over 10years.

day1: CBT

Now Thoery passed and Mod1 booked

day1: decent ride and some cone at the end work
day2: solid car park cone work for mod 1

Mod1: turn up at instructors centre one hour before mod1, drive to test ground and pass the mod1. So only 90mins of that day.

Wait until day before mod2.

Day3: Full long ride, lots of town work around the area where the test is.

Mod2: Arrive an hour before mod2 at instructors, ride to test centre and pass mod2.

Boom, celebrate!

The only thing you want to do is book mod2 more than a week after mod1 so you can cancel if you do fail mod1.

Did 3 days, but i was ready after 2 - the third day I didnt do alot on the roads and just sat about with the instructor.

Ask them for an evaluation ride, I went out for 30 minutes with an instructor and he told me how much tuition he thought i would need to be "test ready" it was free too.

I can't see how they can say how much tuition you will need without seeing you ride on the road.

In my case having virtually never ridden before i did the CBT in one day, Mod1 was two days training then test on the third day...then the same for Mod 2.

I passed with only a couple of minors on each and looking back i did really well, i did feel at the time that it was the bare minimum that i needed...it was only the instructors faith in my ability that carried me through.

But as has been said before it is inevitably different for each of us. I would have thought the best bet is get your CBT done and assess it from there, both you and your instructor will get a very good idea of both your natural ability and speed of learning.
