Hi All,
I have searched a few threads but not found an answer to a problem I have. I have bought a Gilera Coguar 125 (02 plate) which has a speedo that doesn't work. I have read a few articles that seem to point to this as being a very common fault and that even a new speedo might not last long as they apparently break for a past time.

My question is - Is there a speedo from another bike that should be geared or ratio'd the same that I can put on instead?
I have looked at the universal speedo's, but I understand that you first need to know the ratio that my bike needs Confused Confused

Any help is much appreciated Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Just had a thought -

If I was to fit a universal speedo and the speedo did not read speed accuarately (as it may be a different ratio), would it affect the chances of passing an MOT or doesn't it matter how accurate it is?

Thanks again Thumbs Up

fit a push bike one.
My wifes cougar has a similar problem in that some times it works some-times not!
It is a common fault.

Thanks Odie.

Can you confirm that fitting a push bike speedo is easy enough, and more importantly - will pass an MOT?

Thanks again Thumbs Up Very Happy Thumbs Up

just came back from Hayball Motorcycles in Salisbury, who confirmed that an inoperative speedo is NOT an MOT failure, and doesn't even get checked on an MOT test. They also informed me that a missing chain guard is only an advisory too, and will not fail if it is not fitted.
Hope this will help for someone else in the future Very Happy Thumbs Up

had the same problem with mine!

turns out the aprilia rs125 drive, clock and cable fit straight on
( the drive needed the central spacer pressing out)

but saved me from having to get a new bike with these stupid new MOT rules.

hope this helps
