Mod 2 in unknown area

So i passed my mod 1 yesterday, i dont know what i was worrying about However locally the earliest available mod 2 is 21st december, but i dont want to wait that long unless a cancellation comes up.

But i can do my mod 2 next week about 40 miles away however i dont know the area so will i be at any disadvantage?

If anything, I think you'll have an advantage!

I believe we are mostly prone to silly mistakes in areas we know well, as it is there that we tend to not bother to look at road signs, markings and generally pay less attention to surroundings.
But in unknown areas we are far more attentive, watching every road sign and marking, as we have no idea what's coming up round the corner.

At least that my experience, and my instructor's as well.

I found it an advantage, paid more attention to signs and road markings rather than riding how I do knowing the area. also you tend to get in the correct lane sooner for change of direction as you go by the first sign you see naturally.

I would say a HUGE advantage, reason being in your local area which you may know very well you don't concentrate as much, example when you go for a trip in your car you feel ok driving in your area then once your out of your comfort Zone & don't know where your going your always aware about what's going around you.

Yep its definately an advantage as you wont be premeditating everything. I did my MOD 2 in a town I have never been in and it made it a whole lot easier. Good luck

There is no reason why you shouldn't, I did my mod 2 in an area that I didn't know well (but had been to previously). As others have said just listen very carefully to the instructions you have been given and look out for the signs. Next left means just that, next available left means that there may be a no entry/one way turning to avoid.

I passed my Mod2 first go on roads I'd never seen or ridden before.

I don't fully agree that it's a huge advantage. Knowing an area you know all of the parts that would catch you out... like bad lane markings or signposts... and speed limits.

I wouldn't say being in a unknown area was any disadvantage however. If anything I would say slightly better because you're concentrating more... although I feel that paying £75 and having an examiner behind you makes you concentrate enough anyway.

In short: you'll be fine. Do it. Pass it.

and remember, if you don't fancy going the direction the examiner tells you too for whatever reason, just pretend you didn't hear him You can't fail for not hearing the directions, but you can if you forget to indicate then suddenly take a left he told you too.
