By the time you have realised, it will be too late and they have your plate....
I would imagine if caught after flipping a plate. The resulting fine etc would be far higher... ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Sounds like someone's been watching too many cop shows on TV.
Unsurprisingly it doesn't work there either. |

I was actually pondering this issue today, but the potential benefits are avoiding a conviction for a not-really-an-offence and a token fine, versus custody if you're nabbed - and that could include just having it spotted by an eagle-eyed Plod while you're parked up.
You might be as well with a teeny plate with a novelty font - those seem to result in a finger wag and a FPN at worst. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Once upon a time, offence of displaying the wrong registration number , was a non endorseable offence, where-as displaying the correct, but irregular sized plate was endorseable, and more heftily fined.
When flippers came out; within weeks, police issued notice that if they cought any-one actuating one on the road, they would persue the offence of 'perverting the course of justice' as there was no other reason for one on a road vehicle other than to avoid prosecution for offences committed.
Think they had it stitched up before they made the anouncement; becouse wasn't long until some-one tried it and was rapidly made an example of, giving them thier 'precedent' for future prosecutions.
Displaying false plates has been tightened up, and its now 'using a vehicle other than described by the registration document', and instantly deems it a 'ringer' subject to siezure and disposal.
Leaves noughty fonts and size as the lesser offence... but still stupid as SO obviouse.
I believe however, riding without ANY number plate is still something of a loop-hole...... it cant be other than described on the registration, because you're not declaring the reg. Its NOT a perversion of the course of justice..... becouse there are many reasons it may be missing..... over sight, got stolen (yes number-plates get stolen!), fell off... whatever....... and if its not there, they cant do you for irregular font or size or anything..... its simply 'missing'....... essentially a vehicle defect same as a tail lamp bulb blown....
As far as I can tell, anyway....... ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

No, "let's you and him fight" means inciting others to kick off.
However, I may have... misread a bit...
OK, I get what you're saying, but while using a plate flipper may be a "stupid" crime, it is treated as a serious one, where custody is assumed.
28 week prison sentence, suspended for 2 years, bike seized.
Even if you do escape custody, your job prospects - and chances of getting insured - with a perverting the course of justice conviction are sharply limited.
Stupid, yes. Serious? Well, not as serious as other crimes, but plenty bad enough for most of us. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
