Just got a CLR head back after 8months of to have it reground, along with the valve seats, and many failed attempts at pushing a new valve guide in.

I was working late tonight so didn't have chance to see it, when it was picked up.

To my memory, it was not in that bad condition when sent to them.

It did have a snapped valve crash into the piston and cause alot of damage but not that much.
I can't see how the damage in the top half of the picture was caused by the valve when the 'wall' is intact.

What do you think?

To be honest you do not seem certain that it wasn't in that condition before you sent it. I think you'd have to be certain before you could really try anything. Maybe they cleaned it up and it just looks worse now?

That head looks to have been skimmed.
The valve seat is very very close to the edge of the combustion chamber.
If it was skimmed you will need to make up for that with gaskets.

If it's already paid for and was sent of with damage in the first place that you have absolutely no idea how bad it was, nor do you have any proof of, put it on the engine, make the engine run & sell the bike or buy a new engine & sell this one as being a recon spare.

However first sign of chenobyl, 4 thou welding or any of the other bullshit and i'm off.

I'll cut the crap.

The head is off my mates bike.
The deal is.
I rebuild it, and get to ride it aslong as it takes for me to get my full license back and get the GT back on the road.

It happened roughly 2 1/2year ago now, when the engine blew, then early on this year I propositioned him about me putting it back on the road if I fix it, because he was on about his dad wanting to get a bike.

I have the rest of the bike in the garage, waiting for the engine. But not sure where to fit this head, and risk it blowing up again in a few miles.

Sorry, but £20 for a perfectly fine replacement & a spare barrel/piston?

No brainer.

Chuck the fucked head on ebay with the bits you diddnt need from that pile of top end i've linked & claim was bought by mistake & diddnt fit. OR clean everything up so it's looking minty fresh & claim it's reconditioned.

I am going to strip the engine and see what else is damaged (wrecked piston still on it).

Just put the head in my bag so will see what the blokes at work say, when I get there. One of them is a top notch Street fighter designer and has had a few bikes in the centrefold. So hopefully he'll know better than me.

So realy that top end for £20 is absolutely perfect. Buy it, fit it, wash the crankcase out with parrafin, refill with oil & ride it till it goes bang.

It's a mates bike, if it goes bang while he's on it then it's his fault not yours. If it goes bang while you're on it then it needed a new engine anyway.

Dafuq am i talking about, buy a fecking twist & go scoot for £250 & slap an MOT on it. It'll go on forever & cost fuck all to maintain. And you'll own it so it wont cost you as much long term as repairing a mates bike to borrow it.

That surface does not look as though it has been skimmed but been cleaned up by using a sheet of emery cloth on a flat surface.

If the valve guide/guides have been replaced have the valve seats been recut?

Those valves do look a bit recessed into the head.If the seats were recut did they trim the 45 degree cut using 30 and 60 degree cutters to trim the 45 back to the correct width?

It would seem like the best advice has been given.Buy that engine part from ebay rather than trust that worked on part.
