Just had the letter through the post this morning...

3 points + £60 fine or RIDE course (£95) + 7hrs (and more) fucking about

What's better to do?

£90 or close to in Thames Valley run by the AA so should be a general price

If you go for the course make sure you attend as if you don't you get the points anyway and lose the course fee

if you weren't speeding why were you issued the nip? you should be able to ring up and ask about the cost of the course, as to wether it's a better option than taking the points i suppose depends on your situation. if you've only just got you licence and are under the new drivers act 6 points crap the taking the course would be a no brainer, is your riding style likely to attract 9 more points in the next 3 years leading to a ban?

£75 when I was offered the course.

I signed up, didn't go and never heard any more of it.

So I paid a tad more than the fine would have been, no points, no time off work and no condescending chat

My bad, says RIDE course not speed awareness and cost £95 with 7 hours classroom time.

Now I've read that, I would rather take 3 points and £60 fine than have a copper/coppers lecture me for 7 fucking hours.

I have since been back to where it happened and my suspicious were confirmed at the time that there was an "eye in the sky" dome camera on a huge pole way up which would have had a perfect view of the whole thing.

I have no doubt PC Jobsworth will have that footage in the event I tried to contest what he said.

Just to go over what happened again...

Was with a mate, he was several cars behind me, came up to a line of crawling traffic doing about 10mph, filtered past a line of 6 cars to the front and rode off.

Unknown to me, a traffic copper had just been in the row of shops and crossed the zebra crossing on foot, on his own, heard my engine as I went to over take, signaled for me to stop (which I didn't as I didn't see him), he notes my reg down and turns up at my house 20 mins later and bollocks me.

I didn't realise I had done the filter on a zebra, was too busy concentrating on the on coming cars and keeping close to filtering.

I have successfully avoided getting points in my 12 years of having a license.

being self employed with a clean licence id just swallow the points, if you weren't self employed id be likely to go to court and see if the officer actually turns up to give evidence, often enough they don't and if he does you can always plead guilty and take the points before going in and end up with the same punishment, no point if it costs you a days wages though

I used to do in excess of 80k miles a year, obviously not always in places I knew. Points and fines were an occupational hazard that, given the revenue raising nature of the exercise, were sometimes hard to avoid. I would suggest that, if offered a driver awareness course, do it and save your points in case you need them. I did one, it lasted 3 hours. Basically I got a sit down for a few hours, some tea and biscuits and a chance to perv a few men in uniform...

I'm just going to take the 3 points and £60 fine, it's not worth my time to go on the course thinking about it.

Hi, I attended the RiDe course in 2009 for Careless driving (overtaking on junction). It was that or 6 points and I was still under new drivers act at that point.


The lecturer I had was sound, they are NOT coppers - far from it. Easy going, relaxed atmosphere in the room and we were gone by 2.00pm.

Only had Speed awareness and that was 3 hours with a group of old people and a sound guy taking it -
£95 plus travel is alot, but Id rather do that then have 3 points on my licence for X ammount of years
