How cheap is cheap? I picked up a pair of Hein Gericke Pathan "lobster claw" gloves from eBay. About £30 used, apparently hardly worn (not a mark on them, and no smell, which is good enough for me). In Monday's rainstorm, my hands were the only bit to stay properly dry, whereas my Buffalo gloves gave up pretty easily.

Sorry should have set a budget, say under £50.

Here you go; in the current sale, they're under your budget. There are five fingered versions too, if you don't fancy the Zoidberg look, but these are reputedly warmer.

No real point when the HG ones are £42 on sale.

Might be for the person who reads this thread later when the HG sale has moved on and they're not discounted when someone wants to buy,

Perfect timing, after freezing my ass off last week. I realise how completely unprepared I am for winter!
Just a quick question, If my current Summer gloves are size "small".
Would I be right in thinking "Extra Small" for Winter gloves to make up for the bulk?

Hmm 5 finger or Zoidberg's Neutral

Don't forget the bar muffs option. You can wear thinner (more dextrous) gloves in that case.

These below are Rayven Alpha Hipora Gloves, done quite a few miles with them they have kept the wind away haven't felt it at all and fully waterproof for all the rain I've been in. Also they are thin so you can operate the controls easily.

Personally I would recommend them to anyone, however would recommend getting 2 pairs as once wet they can be a bugger to get back on. Still doable as I've only got one pair.

£20 Rayven Alpha Gloves

Google - German army goretex over mitts.

They are 100% waterproof, fleece lined & are quite a big fit - therefore you can wear them over your everyday gloves , negates the need for muffs & depending on amount of time your journey takes are an adequate substitute for heated grips.

I've recently bought 2 pairs at a total cost of £26, very happy indeed with them Thumbs Up

Granted they ain't the best looking thing, but keeping warm & dry is more important to me than fashion Dance!

I got a pair of Spada enforcers last year and have been very happy with them. Warm, WP but a bit bulky. Love the visor wiper thingy on the thumb. IIRC they are about £55. Thumbs Up

After spending many years buying £30 'waterproof' gloves that then leak like a teabag and carrying spare gloves so i keep some kind of warm and dry I gave in and bought some Goretex gloves from HG that are actually dry and are guaranteed to be so for 5 years.

No more spare dry gloves and my hands stay warm and dry and then in winter add some muffs for added protection.

Buy cheap, buy often.

This was the answer i was afraid was going to be the case, as someone who keeps buying the £30-or-under wunder gloves that tend to last under a year before developing problems.

Sorry to repost Embarassed
Same size or 1 size smaller for winter gloves?
Good reviews on the HG gloves but my nearest store is 1 hour 30 minutes away, So I can't try a pair on.
So if anyone who owns the 3/5 finger version would let me know what the fit is like pleeeaaaassseee?

Thank You! Thumbs Up

I 've got TZG 5.
They got maximum score in waterproof and warmth category in Ride magazine. Cost about £30 on ebay.

100% waterproof so far. Not sure how warm they are as there wasn't cold enough to test it yet.

I wear HG Pathans in winter which have been 100% waterproof in severe weather. I have HG x-trafit Goretex gloves in the summer and they've also been 100% waterproof in severe weather.

In fact, all of mine and my wife's HG textiles have held up fantastically.

I find glove sizes vary quite a bit but I would say the Pathans are quite big at any given size. I comfortably fit an XL Pathan where I am XXL in many other gloves. Don't take my word on sizing, though :-S
