A 120 mile round trip in the rain and hail stones followed by a dealer who tries to give me £200 less for my bike than was agreed on the phone for a part exchange only a few days previously.

At least I got a test ride on a Hornet.

It was ok but it didn't float my boat. Rolling Eyes

You should not realistically expect dealers to honour PX prices that have been agreed remotely. They will have been generous as they need to draw you into their parlour.
You may have described the love of your life as perfick, though the truth is quite different. As such, you shouldn't be upset when a dealer does not share your sentiments.
You may have travelled a long distance and you may be tired. You may also be heartset upon riding away on that new Hornet/Ninja/Bandit/Whatever. As such you are easy prey and should expect to be arseraped.

Don't do it! You'll never be satisfied with a lower powered bike again. Laughing

Yeah, it was ok, I'm not knocking it but it didn't feel as refined or responsive as the XJ6 I did my tests on.

5 months old, no damage whatsoever. Perfick.
They were told this on the phone and weren't able to pick any faults with it on inspection.
Maybe it was the BCF stickers that devalued it. Rolling Eyes

Cheers Paddy but I dont fancy a 200mile+ round trip on a 125 in one day.
My arse is still sore from the ride/dealer shafting yesterday.

hey, you haggle with them to get the price down, its only expected the do the same when you try flogging a 125 to them.

buying and selling bikes is like a dance, you either dance with them or walk away laughing at their 1980's disco moves.

What part of 'the price was agreed on the phone' didn't you get?
At no point was it a 'based on inspection' price.
I don't expect to be haggled down when -
(a) there's already a verbal agreement and (b) there's no grounds for them to haggle, i.e. damage or wear and tear.

I did laugh out loud however, when the salesman watched me get geared up for the ride home.
He came over and said- 'Have a think and give me a shout.' Laughing

you cant expect someone to lay down a fixed price remotely without even seeing pictures, which for all they know could be out of date images of someone elses bike.

you learnt a valuable lesson that day.

DONT

TRUST

DEALERS

and dont expect them or ANYONE to honour a purchase agreement without them visually inspecting it first.

It was the demo bike, the latest Hornet incarnation.
Apparently it has a larger fuel tank these days which seems to have been the main gripe of most of the older Hornet owners.

Name the dealer so others know who to avoid.
