As the title says, here is my brothers 12 plate cbf125, 724 miles as of sunday and hes only had it a few months. He garages the bike at night and keeps it under cover at work, he used acf 50 on it when he got it and this is now its condition.
His local Honda dealer tried to palm him of with the lack of mantainance routine, they refuse him a refund and he had to get trading standards in on it, the dealership told him they would replace it with another after first saying they would replace the parts, which he refused as the bike should not need new parts at this age really.
Now he tells me they are giving him the runaround on the replacement bike, so make up your own mind on honda build quality and customer service, and the worst part is his daughters new cbf is also heading this way, 5 grand spent on two bikes.

There cheap as shit so build quality will suffer...

However, on my new CBF I managed to clock up 5000 miles riding through last years winter. never garaged. never covered. And it still looked in better nick than that, the rust was mostly around the various bolts/places as on yours but only about 1/4 as rusty I'de say.

Get it sorted now, disgraceful for only 700 miles! what service intervals?! Not even due it's first one at that age!!!

What really begs the question... why did they buy new? Did they really need to buy 2 bikes that rot for 5k? Could get 2 tried, tested and suitably sized Varadero's for that price Shocked

Possibly down to financial situation, but they thought Honda = Quality so worth the investment. Not

This is how I learned my most valuable motorcycling lesson... Never buy new... ever.

Quite possibly.

I now think 125s are very cheaply made, they have really gone down hill Thumbs Down

Disgusting Thumbs Down I've seen chinese bikes in better nick.

My mate's '09 CBF was no where near that even after 12K miles in all weathers, barely washed and maintained. The only thing that rusted on his was the exhaust, and it also had summit wrong with the gearbox but was all fixed under warranty at the time.

That's disgraceful, I had one of those for a year and it looked in far better condition than that, and that's after 11,000 miles of noobish bodgery.

That definitely doesn't look right.

My old CBF125 was reg'ed on February this year, and done about 2100 miles before I gave it away as part-ex today.
The only visibile signs of rust were at the supports of the pillion footpegs. And that was a small amount that you had to bend down to notice.

I kept it outdoors, covered but by a cheap thin cover that didn't even go all the way to the floor, so water went under it and even through the cover - many times I uncovered it to find the whole thing wet under the cover Confused

I'm guessing it came from a bad batch, could be a bad batch of the metal parts, who knows. They are made in India, and anything can happen.

Mine developed a fault with the fuel pump at 300 miles, and apparently Indian-made CBF125s had a bad batch of fuel pumps, so it could be a similar case.

That looks like it's bordering on defective manufacturing imho, wonder if the bike got a bad batch of rustproofing or something.... I mean, i've seen 10yr old bikes that are in better condition than that!

https://www.bikechatforums.com/download.php?id=86294
That one concerns me the most, since it looks like the frame itself is corroding from within...

I'd say he's definitely right to demand a replacement bike since if that's how bad the visibly corroded components are, how can you trust that the bits you can't see are in good nick? o.O

Jeez...

I have a 2012 CBF125 with 4100 miles on the clock, keep it outside most nights, and I've got literally no rust compared to that. I've got a little on the bottom of the side stand, and that's it. That's shocking and definitely not normal.

i cant say i agree with a "bad batch" of bikes. its not just the frame, ALL the different parts on that bike are rusting. springs, pedals, frame, footrest, the lot. i would wager he's jetwashed the bastard out of it and then let it - drip dry repeatedly.

Is he using about 10 cans of ACF50 a night on it or something? Thinking

How the hell it's got to that condition so quickly I have no idea, CBFs are on par with YBRs and i've seen a lot of them about and none that rusty

Could it be possible the dealers used chinese metal cheapo parts putting it together?!

Actually that sounds like another valid possibility.
I think it's even in the manual - no jet/pressure wash. It mostly refers to the chain o-rings becoming damaged, but it might just be bad for the frame too.

In that case he better not ride the bike when it rains, cmon its steel and alloy with rubber and plastic, we know not to use a pressure wash on the chain but really your saying the use of a pressure wash could basically destroy the bike in the long run Rolling Eyes , any way as i said bucket and sponge. I used my local jet wash many times on my ybr and it never bothered it, only thing that rusted was the exhaust, my opinion is they are not what they used to be, ive seen loads of cg`s that are in great condition many years later.

That's the thing, they don't make them like they used to. Especially in the Far East. We bought these 'security' window rails from China recently, made to our specifications:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C9pstKody8

They *were* supposed to be stainless steel Laughing

Bottom line is, you never know what you're getting with stuff made in that part of the world.
