Right i promise this is my last motorcycle gear thread Laughing I have got everything else sorted now, helmet, gloves, boots so now its time to sort some leathers out.

I was planning on getting some 1 piece Gp leathers as they seem to have good reviews and they are cheap. I prefer the look off 1piece leathers compared to the 2 piece.

I then saw a alpinestars second hand jacket on ebay and won that for £75 so heres my question.

Is it worth buying a 1 piece suit for long jorneys, travelling to work, weekend riding then a jacket for just popping to the shops or driving around town? I would wear the jacket with jeans.

Or Just buy a 2 piece suit lol.

Cheers

1 pieces are a pain in the arse. I only wear mine for day long jaunts, I definitely wouldnt wear mine to work.

For your day to day stuff why not get some textiles, 'cos its probably going to rain for the next few months Thumbs Up

Sooo could not be arsed with a one piece. And unless you're on a racetrack, you pretty much look like a knob.

2 piece is far more flexible. You can mix & match for a start, wear the jacket with jeans, wear the bottoms with a textile jacket, whatever you like.

Read my thread in my sig, plenty of gear advice there lad. One piece, impractical and crucially, not waterproof.

Many years ago I had a one piece Rukka waterproof.
I had 2 problems with it, and I think the same issues will apply to leathers:
1 - what fits when you are stood up will not fit when you are sat on the bike, & vica versa
2 - A nightmare when you have got cold on the bike and you are desperate for a pee.

1 piece is just way less practicall. Any stop and you carry upper part on your hips. Uncomfortable and looks silly.

I personally love practicality now. Without that riding can give to much hassle and take all the fun out.

To add to the above - 2 piece do eventually zip together (I read some time ago that a suit is as strong as it's weakest point, so the zip could fail at a test), so they feel like a 1-piece.
I would not bother with a 1-piece unless I was keen on track days.

This is pretty much exactly the set up I have, one piece Arlen ness suit for trackdays/fast road (certainly not commuting), and a nice comfy Alpinestars Jacket, along with some Kevlar jeans, which does everything else, like commuting, going to the pub and just generally getting about.

Works pretty well for me, but if bike is your only transport then some waterproofs would be worth considering, generally speaking, if it's raining, I go in the car!

Did (deliberately) buy my jacket a bit too big, which is handy for winter, as I can get a couple of layers and a hoody underneath it, and in summer it's pretty comfy, and I can carry a surprising amount of crap zipped up in it (2x2litre bottles of coke wasn't a problem).

Like I said works for me, but a 1 piece does definitely make you look like a tosser, especially if yours is white, like mine...

It's a reasonable combo if you don't mind the one piece drawbacks.
You might also be able to wear the textile jacket over the one piece giving extra warmth plus usable pockets (oh the luxury)

Two piece leathers are far more practical and you have more options, like trousers with textile jacket or wear jacket with denim jeans for short journeys.

Most one piece suits have 2 zips, one from the top and one from the bottom.

But they can be a little impractical. I wouldn't wear one to go to work in. Maybe just for a Sunday blast and the likes.

Leather jacket with a winter liner and some textile bottoms or my leathers if its nice.

Thanks

Cheers for all the replies guy. Either going to get a decent second hand set of leathers or a cheap set of gp leathers. Not sure yet though.
