When i bought my gleaming yellow vfr, I just couldn't wait to get out on it. I had no consideration that the weather is just about to turn even worse than it's been all year. So as the roads are about to be coated in varying amounts of salt, depending how well your council prepares for the conditions of winter, I started thinking that maybe I should not be using the VFR as my daily ride. I've still got the cbf in the garage, but I know that these are not best for withstanding a harsh English winter.
So anyway, I thought i mght look around for a winter hack, so thought I'd post here to see what most people's plans are. Are you going to stick with your current bike? Do you have a winter bike tuckedaway that is coming back out? Or, are you planning on buying something else? If so, what?

If my bike doesn't survive until spring it wasn't worth buying in the first place, and trust me, BCF will be the first place to hear my moans/complaints.

Await information on the GPZ's winter survivability Wink

I'm a one bike kind of guy, if I bought a hack I would still take the Gixxer out anyway the moment I saw it in the garage.

Bandit is heading for its 3rd winter.

Despite everyone who "knows" on here, it hasn't (yet) dissolved into a small pile of rust, but that may be down to liberal coatings of ACF50 Wink

I generally only ride my ER6 when the weather is decent, or when touring. So I'll ride my SH300 all winter, except for snow and ice.

However, the scooter is worth more than the bike Smile

If I could afford a second bike, my SV would still be the hack.

the cityfly til i pass my tests then the hornet. Although may hold on to the cityfly for grimmer weather as it handles pretty well in the wet and slush

Depending on how skint I am next month I will either:

A. Buy a hack

Or

B. Cover my Daytona with ACF-50 and just get on with it.

Suzuki GSR 600. coated in something to protect against corrosion. It'll be used till it snows then it's going in the garage and it will be Northern train service to work.

Nothing probably. When I finally get my dads KLE (delayed due to him being in hospital) it'll probably not be worth buying the tax, insurance & MOT so I'll probably just overhaul it, full service, braided brake lines etc. make sure it's in good nick for touring next year. Got myself a Toyota RAV 4 for this winter, bring it on snow.

I would kill for heated seats & steering wheel Sad

I have ridden in past winters, I've done my time don't judge me Laughing I used to go to college and back in the snow on a 125cc scooter, some times I'd have to get off and push it and get odd looks from people.

my hayabusa gets used all year , this will be its 4th winter .
sometimes i wonder if its worth the bother as i've often had to put my garden hose in to my bath to defrost it so i can wash my bike at the end of the day Very Happy
the bike is still mint , i've seen it that cold that i've had to borrow a hair dryer to defrost the ignition to get the key in Very Happy

CB500. I bought it because everyone says it's a pretty good all rounder, all weather. We'll see.

People mention ACF50 here a lot. Won't you need to strip the bike to apply that properly? I can't see being able to apply it properly everywhere unless the bike is part-stripped at least.

Bought this at the weekend, ready to replace the Africa Twin for the duration of winter:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/614977_10151110152446028_1910212784_o.jpg

Paintjob done, (much better than baby blue!) new chain and sprockets and brake shoes in - needs handguards, LED lights to replace filament bulbs and a decent mudguard.
