PostPosted: 17:10 - 17 Oct 2012    Post subject: My first road rage related fight. Reply with quote

I had my first bust up today in which i was blamed by other motorists but was i in the wrong?

I am filtering at about 6mph with the traffic moving at a snails pace of about 2mph if that and there is a side street that takes you too another main road which is used by buses and alot of other vehicles so i do my observations and pull into the traffic because a chap left me the gap and i was behind a chav in a celica on his phone and to busy looking at people in the street so i thought id wait abit so i was behind him for about 5minutes at 3mph in which the traffic on the otherside of the road was light so as i was preparing to go round him he was constantly watching me and some girls on the other side, i come out and start to pass making sure he sees me in his mirror which we have a constant eye contact he then swings out when theres no reason on the other side of the car to do so and clips my pegs. At which point we are both looking at eachother and he then swings his door out to me. My reaction without thinking was to kick my leg at his door to prevent it even coming close to me which he does not like, he then slams his brakes and jumps out so i pull over and jump off, as i am getting off he runs at me to try and kick me he misses and swings again, i am able to strike him but i have a summer glove so i dont have decent contact he then trys grabbing me in which hit him again he then starts jumping up and down ranting how hes going to get the boys and do me in and all that nonsense and in the heat of rage i push him away to his car as he is realising im not going to let him f**k about like that with a bike going past him again or its somthing that we can take on the chin sort of tempo, with the traffic and everyone watching he then jumps in and starts reving me when i was walking away, i was thinking of taking his keys and throwing them so i can safely get on my bike and slightly calm down alittle before pulling out and riding off, as i reach for his keys he does a Uturn without even looking or any sign of knowledge of if its clear and and i completly miss but with my arm swinging i go for his mirror which i clipped and it broke off but was hanging on by cables. As i got back on my bike i had cagers and peds shouting "Bike thug scum and all that crap" which led to a slight argument with 2 women on the pavement, they also took photos of my bike and reg and was threating with the police and all that which i said i would happily wait. Am i in the wrong for my actions to this muppet? Yes i was aggressive, Yes i hit him twice in which he was unable to strike me once. What could i/ Should of done if i was not able to ride off and wait in front of this fool?

well..

from your description the summary is..

you went to filter past a 'chav' who whilst watching you tried to ram you by swerving and then tried to open his door on you who then, as you stopped, jumped out of his car and attempted to kick/punch you but failing to do so.

you retaliated with reasonable force and with nothing resolved said 'chav' jumps back in car and tries to make a getaway.

from what the biker hating public saw around you..

this biker was travelling at approx. 185mph through traffic. he then kicked a poor young drivers car door for no reason at all, then when said poor young driver got out to ask why, got struck by the thuggish biker lout and fearing for his life the driver then attempted to leave the scene as quickly as he could.

if your description was correct it sounds like he was a prat who was after a fight and he chose you.. and failed. unfortunately, thats often not what people around you will see.

I wanted to say something like that but I think you've nailed it.

Sounds like it got heated pretty quick. But by what you have said if he came out at you to kick you then your perfectly justified to defend yourself.

Anything percieved as excessive force (hitting him then still hitting him while hes out cold on the floor) is obviously going to get you in thick doo doo with the police.

I would be careful in future though because getting your own back like taking the keys out of his car would have been going too far IMO even though he was revving his engine. I would have called the police myself there and then or simply left your bike and waited for him to move off so you could calm down.

Doubt the police would be interested unless there is video evidence, a victim, and some witnesses that are unbiased.

Nothing unreasonable about it, but it's always preferable to avoid a fight if you possibly can. The people who are most up for a fight are generally up for it because they think they'll win easy, often this is because they've got a knife or the like, which could end up costing you your life.

Come on, can you really take a car wingmirror off by punching / kicking it? I'd have thought you'd lose your leg/arm first.

Yes its amazing how strong you are after nearly being killed by a cager. I hear Jaguar wing mirrors are very flimsy Whistle

I'd have been angry too, your on a bike, he's in a car and he's playing silly buggers. He deserved the mirror, but damaging car in public wasn't smart. Your supposed to get his address (legally entitled after an accident) and do it a few weeks later. Wink

You come on here with my name, and put together a "paragraph" like that.

Bigger man in me says you should have ridden away slowly, slightly ragey man in me says you should have followed him for a bit Mr. Green

I kicked one sky high and it felt like it took 10 seconds to land. Combination of steel toecaps and adrenalin.

i think perfectly justified.

if theres any cctv there, which there likely is, then you'll be fine if there's a complaint made.

good on you for standing up for yourself.

I think you should at least locate the CHAV and send him a link to this:-

My mate has a collection of wing mirrors in his garage from his travels, mind you he has a speed triple.

I've seen a cyclist punch off a wing mirror while riding. Definitely seems like it's doable.
