Hi, I've access to a cheap Street triple that is 6 months old and been dropped by a rich yuppie that demanded it was written off so he could have a fresh new one. Now the bike has been restored as new and has no damage what so ever to the workings of the bike. It's a fantastic price and doesn't compare to other bikes the same age and mileage. What would the effects of this be when coming to resell? How much leniency in the price should there be due to it carrying a "written off" label?

True, but it is fair to let someone know the history. Ok, if they don't ask you could say tough, you should've asked. I think it would be a bit of a cuntish thing to do. The write off will be recorded on the V5 too, even if it's just a Cat D

PS Not suggesting the OP would do such a thing, of course.

I'm always honest when selling vehicles, I'm sure it would come up on a history check anyway.

Karma If its as good as you say I'd snap it up if you are looking to buy it yourself - I've always liked the Triumph Triples.

Not sure how much the Write off will affect the price, depeneds on the category.

It's a shame that bikes can be written off so easily by the insurance gits just for cosmetic damage.

It would be OK to sell a bike and say nothing. Provided there wasn't any 'structural' damaged repaired. Twisted Forks, Broken Frame etc.
Fairings, lights Seats etc. Not structural and more cosmetic so it would be fine.

Though if the bike has been recorded as 'written off' by the insurer then things are different.
They normally sell for less money which could be reflected in later resale.
Dealers are funny/(can be) about taking accident damage gear though and could 'hum and haw' over trade in price due to that.

If you resell, just tell em straight that it was Cat C/D and the reason. They can find out from an HPI easy enough.

If I was a buyer and the guy hid the former write off I'd be wary about what else he was hiding on the bike and just how bad the damage actually was. It would walk away pretty fast. If the buyer had been straight up about it's history and seemed like an up front, honest guy then it wouldn't worry me at all, and I'd appreciate the honesty.

If you do come to sell, then no doubt you will be plagued by more than a fair share of the, "I'll give you £600" chancers that are out there, but just tell em where to go and wait for real genuine buyers rather than the ebay, "I want everything for nothing" crowd.
