Got my first ever pair of decent trousers for the bike , textile with knee and hip armour , few questions.

Do i wear normal trousers underneath them? come home from work with my combats on underneath and they where abit of a struggle to get on/off ?

Also the knee armour feels weird as fuck when on the bike , will it eventually wear itself in and alow me to bend me knees a bit more?

Cheers marco

Knee armour ALWAYS feels weird at first - you will very quickly get used to it. I have worn jeans under textiles and its not the most comfortable sensation tbh. If i am going to work, i still wear jeans for convenience, but on longer rides out, i wear thermal longjohns underneath the textiles instead and find this much more comfortable. The choice really is yours.

Tuck your combats or jeans or whatever into your socks before putting the textiles on; that way they stay in the right place, instead of becoming bunched up hotpants. This may also make your knees more bendable.

One thing to note with the knee armour, they will sit slightly below your knee if they fit right, as when you sit down, they'll come up a little with the pants themselves and sit right on your knee. I was a bit confused when I first tried on/brought some myself, don't sweat it you'll get used to them very quick. I wear a full suit under my textiles and keep my shoes in my backpack, no issues with creasing or anything really.

i pretty much do what samwise does if i'm wearing jeans. if im going for a ride out and dont plan on taking the textiles off that day though then i'll just wear joggers underneath

I too use textiles and wear stuff underneath. You'll get used to knee armour so don't worry about it.
As for what to wear underneath it's up to you really. Depending on what you wear you may find it
easy to take off whilst some things may be a lil awkward.
All matter of trying it out for yourself.

i was wearing my work trousers under mine, but they all bunched up at the top all the time making me look like i was wearing a giant man-nappy.

so i've started just taking my trousers with me and changing. simpler. if it's dry i don't wear the waterproofs anyway.

this thing with the knee armour being "in the right place when you're sitting on the bike"

... will you still be in that position when you crash?

i mean lowside there's no armour on the side of the joint really. and highside, if youre still in the "sitting" position when you come tumbling down there's something wrong with you

I was told this by the shop I got my Weise textile trousers from, but they were still too low even when riding - I had to hitch up the lining using liquid rubber glue but got it sorted. Now upon reattaching the thermal lining, one of the retentive hoops has snapped off, bah!

I've had a few pairs of textile troos and have never wore jeans, trackie bottoms or nowt under them. They have thermal liners and if it's really bitter a pair of long johns keeps the nads toastie.
If you can get anything more on under them then you have the size up form your 'real' size.

In my experience, yes. You hit the ground very quickly, you barely have time to change your body shape. In a low-side, the knee that hits the ground is the lower knee, and you may bash the other knee if you rotate as you come down (though my experience has been to slide along on my side).

For a high-side, it depends on how bad it is. In my high-side, I landed mostly on my hands and chin.

In all my accidents, the longest lasting trouble has been from feet / ankles caught underneath the bike, twisted and / or scraped into the road.

And for a head-on crash, you'll go over the handlebars and probably bash your knees on those.

PS: and consider that you are a falling body along with the rest of your clothes after you come off, i.e. relative to your own body position, the clothes are weightless - it's gravity that normally pulls the armour down when you're trying to walk around.
