Evening all!
Just spent the day doing some mod 1 & 2 training. The instructor said that I was pretty much set for the tests, however, my 125 is not on the DSA's list of applicable bikes, so it might not qualify for A2
Apparently If I can prove it is capable of 100 kmh, which it most certainly is, by showing the bike's certificate of conformity to the examiner, it will count for A2.
The only potential problem is that the certificate states more than or equal to 80 kmh, and not the magic 100 kmh
I don't really want to hire a bike as it will be an extra £60...
any ideas? |

No other way about it.
If you're not on the list, you're not coming in |

Whats the bike?
Latest DSA eddict is that they will accept any 125 for A2 UNLESS they have reason to believe it doesn't meet standards.
I presume its a chinky thing?
And that its one of those where the same model is sold under different names, some with some without A2 listing?
Rogers suggestion is to just turn up and see if they argue about it?Maybe take the badges off so that attension isn't drawn to it.
If argument; just say that its the same bike as a Umajuma 125 that is A2 listed, and that you have fitted the carburettor exhaust and sprockets off one of them to make it A2 complient! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

It is a CPI sprint (beautiful bike )...from Taiwan , if that's any conciliation!
I frequently ride it at 70 mph so I know it has the guts...it just these bloody bureaucrats!!!
It is not a generic far-eastern bike so there are no other identical bikes on the list.
I do have an idea though! In the owner's manual there is a graph to show what gear is appropriate, and it states that 5th gear will take it up to 120 kmh I think the >80 kmh specification and the graph should be sufficient

At best, some models may be assembled in Tiwan, but, would seem much of the range, if not entirely made in China, like many re-branded Chinky bikes, is merely put together elsewhere from generic assemblies or components sourced in China........

UK importers blurb is unhelpful too, merely states
Top speed 'around' 60mph.....
I doubt you genuinely reach 70mph or even NEAR a genuine 70mph, I'm afraid...... speedometers are often enormously optimistic, and your bike, at best has a 10bhp engine which means 60-65 in favorable conditions, 'real' speed.
I have had The Super-Dreams up to a genuine GPS clocked 70 on occassion..... speedo has been off the scale pointing where 90mph might be if numbers went that high....... and thats a Japan made 13bhp twin.

Yeah, nice idea, fail in practice, I have a chart in a Montesa 250 trials bike manual that shows the max rev speed in top is 100mph...... its a 10bhp trials bike...... gearing will only allow that speed if you have the power to go that fast and nearly ALL bikes are geared taller than they have the power to pull, to some degree.....
That suggestion would not pass cursory scrutiny of any-one half clued up...
Better to try and claim if its argued that you have 'tuned' it with a 'race' ignition & carburettor of e-bay.... and raised the gearing with a one tooth bigger front sprocket.
Two chances; book it at risk, and argue the toss if challenged, risk loosing £75, or spend extra £60 to hire a school bike.
Your call, really, but with test bookings getting tight though, be a bummer to waste £75 and a test slot and time to get another for the sake of an argument you know you are in the wrong on.... ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Ooh, nice looking bike.
As Mike says, I wasn't even asked what my de-badged Huoniao was, so you might get lucky. Failing that, cover the branding, find a similar looking A2 bike on the test bike list and say "Is that."
Must be worth a £15.50 gamble on mod 1. Then rock up for mod 2, say "Is A2, you already decided."
Or... ask the importer? You only need something headed, it's not exactly high treason against the crown. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

One of my students used his Baotian Monza scooter for his Mod1 and 2 yesterday. It isn't on the 'approved' list so the examiner telephoned the importers and they confirmed that it was capable of sustained 60mph (they were wrong as it happened as it struggled to reach 50 ) ____________________ www.angliaroadtraining.com
