I don't know if anyone knows about this. Very Happy

Some petrol stations have 'stickers plates plaques etc.' that state Remove Helmets.
Some do not, though the pumpers may shout at you over the PA.

Most petrol stations I use all over the country don't demand helmets are removed. Fact. I think in ten years only one 60 fags-a-day voiced Hag Lady shouted at me from the doorway at a petrol station in Glasgow to remove my helmet.

I have recently contacted Morrisons and Tesco to ask what the official line is with regards to this phenomenon.

Tesco called me and the chap explained that it was for security.
That is not a good reason as some folk posting here have stated.
He informed me that he would put it to the High Heid Yins for review though.

Morrisons wrote to me and explained it is for security and to identify age of person taking fuel.
We have read this old wife's tale before.
Morrisons also added that, 'It is clearly signed that helmets must be removed. So that allows customers the choice to buy from them or not.'

Morrisons' 'signage is NOT clear. It is a little 4" panel on a yellow plate on the post, after the pump at some points so invisible to anyone not actively looking for it. I checked it out today (coz ah'm a cnut) and I had to look and look and look.

With regards to 'customer choice to buy from Morrisons' That translated means 'Fcuk you if you don't want to play by our little rules.'

Morrisons informed me that, "the majority of motorcyclists understand" (their words).

Another poll then as I can't find the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. or any evidence to suggest the 'majority' of motorcyclists 'Understand' the rule.

I don't mind taking mine off, but then I'm usually bimbling around with nowhere important to go. Would find it titting annoying to have to take it off if I was in a rush.
I do tend to use the 'pay at the pump' pumps.

Maybe it is most motorcyclists that understand and we just have a mob mentality from seeing it every other day on here.

I don't care either way. The one that does annoy me is when you don't have to take lid off to fill up but then they demand it when you go to pay.

I really don't mind taking my helmet off at Petrol Stations - in fact, I've always done so even if I didn't have to and as someone who wears glasses it is more of a hassle on a full face. Appreciate many just can't be bothered or see it as speeding things up but I just don't have a problem with it.

It's not something that bothers me particularly, and I usually take it off as a matter of course.

With colder weather looming, I must admit it's a pain if I've got a balaclava and a neck warmer thingy under my helmet, as getting re-assembled comfortably is a nuisance, but I'm an old fart anyway, and it amuses me to pull up on a 125 and take my helmet off to reveal a 50 year old female, who then goes on to gloat loudly about how cheap it is to fill up her bike, pay over the £9 ish and ride away.

I don't mind too much under normal circumstances but, when you've just ridden for over an hour late at night after a fifteen hour shift in freezing temperatures, high winds and are soaked right through cos it's been pissing down all the way and you can't feel any part of your body, never mind your fingers, to then get someone to ask you to remove your lid is usually met with the response of fuck off or a two fingered salute if they're behind a glass window. Followed by a lost sale for them. Mad

Thats the best kind, you have the petrol, are trying to pay, just repeat "Are you refusing payment", if they keep stating you need to take the helmet off quite clearly state you will not be removing it and are they refusing to take payment?

I prefer to leave it on while I'm operating the pump, mainly cos stowing gloves is enough of a pain in the arse, stowing a helmet to fill up would be worse.

Going into the shop, I tend to takd it off, cos I feel a bit of a dick wandering around in a full face helmet, but when I get a flip front helmet, it'll stay on, I'll just flip it up.

I don't know to be truthful but there's nothing stopping you from doing a quick search if you're interested though.

Always keep it on; when I'm filling up and when I go to pay.

Some of the petrol stations even have a sticker on the door saying 'no motorcycle helmets', but I still don't get any hassle.

Common sense has to be applied in these situations.
I'm not exactly going to rob the place whilst queuing with debit card in hand.

I've only been told once to remove my lid, and I haven't graced that particular forecourt with my presence since.

Maybe, but there is an upper limit to the number of fucks I give - Flip front is enough of a nod to the wankers wanting a facial.

Hi

Only had one petrol station ask me to take my lid off. Didn't go there again for a while. Used them again for a bit then they demanded it again so I went elsewhere and haven't been back since.

When doing lots of miles in winter taking lids off is a pain. Land up with the soggy entry to the lid pulling your ears back all the time, making them sore where they join your head. Plus the hassle of getting rain onto glasses, displacing ear plugs, pulling hair out from being tucked away, etc.

All the best

Keith

I don't mind taking it off. I would feel like a bellend walking in to the store with it on anyway. it takes about 3 seconds taking it off and back on so hardly a time saver when you consider the 20 minute queueing that always seems to take place lately. I have never been asked to take it off but its their shop therefore their rules, if you don't like their rules open your own shop

it is illegal to sell petrol to under 16s so I totally understand why they would need to see the person to make the judgment. riding a bike is not proof of age, but seeing a person that looks 40 almost certainly is. as good as ID anyway Smile

the poll is a little misleading because preferring to keep it on doesn't necessarily mean you take issue with taking it off

Always leave mine on. I use the same petrol stations time after time, no problemo's. Only ONE station asked me to remove it, but they had a sign on their door so fair play.

It's not a station I'd use again anyway, was just on route and convenient.

Other than that, I HATE paying at the tills. I love staying perched on the bike and just use my card at the pump. Tis a lazy mans way of life. Thumbs Up

I've never been asked to remove mine. Some times i remove it. But i never use Tesco or Morrison's as they aren't very close to me.

I dunno why they would complain any way. Don't they have camera's to check licence plates and glass windows between the customer and cashier? Or do i just live in a 'ghetto' area Laughing

I just use 'pay at the pump' pumps and avoid this whole thing, although if I was in the middle of nowhere and there wasn't such a place, and they wanted me to take my helmet off, I'd just do it, it's really not that much of a pain and it's quite nice to get the bit of fresh air.
