yes the mtx is very nippy ,the engine is near the same as the nsr engine ... this has the original tc02 engine and has only done 13000 km but the oil pump nylon cogs had broken so the 2 stroke oil pump had stopped working ,the piston was a bit battered so i replaced the head and piston.

Nice clean example of the later Italian built MTX you have there mate! Looks like you have done a nice resto job on it too! Are you planning on painting any more of the white panels the same as the tank, or getting any sticker's made up for it?

I must admit that i prefer the looks of the Japanese built MTX RWD/RWF models, but the engine you have in your's is a better design and more robust than the sometimes troublesome Japanese MTX 125/200's.

It's a shame that Honda Italy never built an NS200R or MTX200 though, but then there would have been no domestic market for them anyway. I'm also told that the Malossi big bore kit for the NS125 takes them out to 190cc anyway.

well stevo as im thinking of selling once its completely done im not sure if im going to do the panels ... i have searched everywhere for the rally sport panels or even the beach hunter panels with the decals already on but nothing ... so im just putting the pro link and marzocchi fork decals and maybe mtx on the side panels ... not much left for me to do now ...

Drum brakes on enduro bikes look prehistoric these days, it's usually the easiest way to spot a chinky bike.

Nice bike mister, how fast does it go? Very Happy Why oh why did I sell my DTR Sad

I believe they used drum brakes on enduro bikes until fairly late owing to the effectiveness of disc brakes was too great?

For example, you don't need a disc brake when you're going downhill in mud.. Hell, you shouldn't want any brake because the front might slide out. It's the rear brake which is most important on enduro brakes, and once again you can easily lock drum brakes on the rear..

Disc brakes are overkill.

Well no modern enduro machine has them. Just seems to be the trademark feature of a "modern" chinese bike these days. I highly doubt they use them because of the reasons you stated Laughing

I'm not giving the Chinese bikes any excuse, I'm only saying what I believe why the Jap bikes didn't use discs on lots of offroaders until the 90's..

Discs and calipers are so common, the price of either is neither here nor there anymore I think.

Either way, discs have got alot better with time aswel, better progressive braking can be done with a modern bike than an early disc brake. Heck! Those cable operated disc brakes were awful on some of those Honda machines!!

Hi everyone, I' m new to BCF, love my two smokes and have been riding them since the early 70's, I need a little help if poss, I have just bought a rally sport125, it's uk reg on an F plate, the guy that I got it from advertised it as a MTX , I think that it may be from France, I have a problem with it, the wireing has been hacked about (which I think that I can sort) but the biggest issue is that the coil has been removed, I don't know what it looks like or where it bolts to the frame, a pic of it's location would be a great help. I can post some pics of it "as found" if anyone is interested?
It will keep me busy over the winter... Very Happy
I don't want this post to be a one way chat, I am retired and spend a lot of time hunting out odd bikes and parts all over the place, especially 2 smokes, if I can help anyone please ask...thanks

It has the tco2 engine and some other differences to the standard mtx but the basics from what I can gather. It's an Italian model so gonna be difficult to get a manual specially for it ( spent some time earlier with no luck, sorry ). Will let you know if I come across one. Lets see some pics!!!

the engine in the rally sport mtx is more or less a nsf 125 engine.I got myself a nsf 125 engine and used that to rebuild my own tc02 engine, and i used the haynes nsf 125 user manual to strip and rebuild my engine, and it was the first bike i have ever rebuilt ,ok there is a few differences but its as close as your going to get.
