PostPosted: 15:44 - 19 Oct 2012    Post subject: my Crash accident Reply with quote

Hey Dudes and Dudettes, thought I would share my de-flowering crash.

It was after I passed my Theory test I thought I'd take a ride further away than what I usually do - to my mates house for a jam.

About a mile away from his place, I was following behind him (he's in his car), along a dead quiet and narrow country road at night, doing 40-50mph

Anyway because his car filled the road space I was following positioned in the middle as well. We then came to a left bend on the road..

I looked down and saw 'The Punisher' - this was a huge trail of loose gravel and chippings down the centre. I knew I was fucked and there was nothing I could do at this point. (Apart from if I was more aware that there would usually be this type of dangerous surface on a country road). But at the time I was mainly focused on following my friend.

As soon as I touched the gravel the bike slipped out and I skidded along with it for a bit, I then flipped and rolled further along the road; near the end I boom boomed my head (grammar&punctuation!)

Anyway mainly my shoulder aches like a bitch! Grazed my elbow and knee, my ankle aches, and my wrists feel a wee bit dodgy.

Whats pissed me off is my Bike is pretty fucked - the gear shifters bent, the left mirror completely snapped off, the handlebars are mushed (clutch lever too). The left side panel is a little smashed and all the electrics died. And this was only checking it over at night time with a torch Sick

My Bike is at my friends place inside his shed, until I can pick it up and bring it back to me. Then hopefully get a service on it.

I suspected I would come off eventually and in some weird way.. (I don't know if you will understand), but, I'm kind of happy I did because of the whole 'Sooner rather then later' and, 'Learn from your mistakes' shindig!?

Anyway I want that Bike running again ASAP, and to get the modules booked in this year

Thanks for reading and I will try answer anything about the crash if you ask.. heh

Ciao for now amigo's!

no one will bother reading it otherwise.

No punctuation or line breaks. Making your post a pain to read.

You didn't have to come off, it's when you're hard-on or off the throttle or hard-on the brakes that's the problem, the best thing to do in those situations is nothing, I think, reduce your speed if you can but don't do anything dramatic.

Shit happens though, country roads are unpredictable at best Thumbs Up

My post is full of hard-ons

As soon as I hit that gravel I did have to come off, that shit was like running over marbles, and my CBT covered nothing in technique regarding this, just warning of it.

If you mean I didn't have to come off because I should of been ready, prepared, more aware/ had better road positioning and that this type of thing could easily be a danger on a country road, your absolutely right, I know it was My error in the end, fair cop.

Hahah Nick 50, I got the groovy funkalicious kind!

Just take care not to follow anyone to closely, you need to be able to see a good way in front of you, if you'd had a bit of time to slow down before hitting it I'm sure it would have been a different story.

I went over some disgusting patch of road last week, but I was taught whatever happens just ease off the throttle, don't touch the breaks and hold it steady. Praying probably helps.

No no, just that you said you 'had to come off' you didn't have to, you just did Wink
If you were leaning over doing a corner at 60mph when you hit it then yeah

It's all experience though, i'm far from being an expert on the subject Laughing

And as above, you need to be able to see past the vehicle in front where possible, especially if it's dark unfamiliar country roads!

Also a lot of people on here will tell you to avoid the centre of lanes for exactly this reason, that's where the crap collects!

Yeah Sorry 'Had' wasn't the word I should use... I can't think of a word for what I mean.. I guess, it was a 'Sure thing' I was coming off..?

Yes your right about "It's all experience though"

"Also a lot of people on here will tell you to avoid the centre of lanes for exactly this reason, that's where the crap collects!"

Hahah yeah I suppose I was just oblivious to this at first and have now learnt the hard way!!

Your fundamental mistate was trying to keep up with your mate, you need to "ride your own ride" and concentrate on the road instead. If you run into gravel then ease off the throttle to a point where the bike feels stable and sod any tail back behind you.
