Hi all.
Recently bought a front wheel 2nd hand with a tyre already on it. Wheel was a good price and the tyre really a freebie, but it's barely worn. However the valve seems to be weird - my pressure gauge won't form a perfect seal when I measure the pressures, and it does leak slightly, but reads ok about 2.6bar, but if i let a tiny bit more air out, it jumps down to 2 bar. Standard pressure is meant to be 2.5 bar, so this is a bit of a problem knowing if i'm getting an accurate reading.
Gauge works ok on every other wheel. At the moment i can't really trust the tyre cos I can't know accurately if it's pumped up properly or not. No garage pumps seem to be able to get air into it, only my foot pump - and the pressure gauge on that is well dodgy.
So is it a dodgy valve, or does anyone know any decent foot pumps with quality pressure gauges on 'em.
New valve? New core? New pump? New religion? What?

Cheers
Jon

Well, I'd try a new core first off. It is not like they are expensive.

Pop into you're nearest tyre dealer like ATS or something and they'll probably give you a handful of valve cores and caps, they throw away millions of them because everytime they fit a new tyre they change the tubeless valve,I doubt very much that they will charge for what is a waste product to them and its always handy to keep a few spares anyway.

try an spray anti-flat tyre like the one use with cars . spred into the valve , then run slowly for 5 or 6 mn . go to services and complete your air pressure , it will work on all tubeless tyres

Pop into your local quick fit or whatever and get them to change it. I did that and it took them 2 seconds and didn't even charge me. Thumbs Up Tyre has been fine ever since.

almost certainly a dodgy valve core. Used to happen on mountain bikes all the time with all the crap that used to get in them. Push bikes are a great source of valve coresif your stuck, but as mentioned most garages will give you a handfull with no charge as they end up in the bin.

Turned out the pressure gauge was dodgy, and just not forming a seal properly with the valve. Oh well, good excuse to get myself nice new digital gauge, and got lots of spare valve cores now Laughing

Can you believe my local Halfords (a big one) has no grease of any description in stock apart from spray on shite, and no threadlock or fuel stabiliser? What the f*^& do they think they're meant to sell??

If you mean Tyreweld type stuff, bear in mind some garages charge to clean the shit off the wheel when putting a new tyre on.(cleaned it out myself and its a real pain in the ass!)
