hi all.recently did a job for my auntie and after finnishing the job i was in the garage getting all my tools when i just spotted the corner of a handle bar sticking from underneath a cover.i asked about it and she just said if you can take it you can have it Smile anyways i got a few piccies and the only information iv got up to now is that its a honda cb110f and its fairly old.sorry about the picture quality but here it is.a few things i need are all cables (clutch, throttle, choke),front hydraulic hose, battery, headlight and dash and a good clean up.if anyone knows alot about these any info would be very appriciated,ie if there any good,a good place to get bits etc etc

Could be quite a nice thing, but has serious money pit potential.

IIRC it's basically a bored out 900F, with hot cams and bigger carbs and they only made it for 1983.

All the Euro models had Comstar wheels, so that could be a US import with the fairing taken off.

900Fs used to like to throw rods (sometimes when they were over revved, as a result of a nasty habit of dropping out of gear) and camchains were always a weak point; I would imagine the 1100 was much the same.

my uncle owns a 900f, tbh from what ive heard i think the only major 'common' fault was cam chains eating there way through the cam chain tunnel. although he says that was with the earlier ones, he's never had a problem with his and its older than yours. Might be worth checking the cct's are good.
nice bike there anyway, so let me get this straight.....it was free?! Shocked

Will be good to see what its like when its put back to its former glory Very Happy

Also in common with other 'euro styled' Hondas of the era, the fuel tap isn't at the lowest point in the tank, meaning water can collect in the bottom over the years and rust it out.

The best thing you can do with that is jetwash it, see if it will start, get it out in the sun, take some piccies and shove it on eBay with 99p start.

It'll be a money- and hassle-pit otherwise.

Nice bit of kit, fairly rare, and growing in popularity (and price) from the classic restoration mob (not hard, bikes like that hit the bottom their value curve recently so prices will go up).

If you are not experienced with this sort of thing, it will be a money pit. The bike looks original, so is probably worth a few quid on ebay - if those exhausts are original and sound, they're worth something.

In your position I would either recommend selling it, or leaving it well alone until you know what you're doing.

Looks like David Silver still carry a fair few bits for it, including camchains and side panels (I suspect a fair bit is shared with late 900s).

You need to give it a proper assessment, before you start opening your wallet, but it might just make a decent project, at least there's no fancy electronics or bodywork to fork out for.

18" front wheel makes for relatively pants choice of rubber. Thumbs Down

Michelin, Pirelli, Metzeler, Avon, Dunlop, Bridgestone and Continental all do tyres to suit that bike, plus you can bet that anything you can get for it now, will be a zillion times better than what was on it when it was new!

Besides, there's a long way to go before tyres become an issue and they wouldn't come very high up my list of things to consider, before getting serious with a bike like this.

Fair enough, I suppose my post would be more accurate if it said that an 18" front means you can't use any of the latest and greatest sports rubber, as opposed to restricting choice in general.

Being able to use the latest and greatest rubber, would only serve to magnify the shortcomings of the 30 year old chassis.

We did have (relatively) super grippy tyres back in the 80s, but making them work really well, usually involved fitting fork braces and modded swing arms.

Please don't strip it. It's far too pretty and rare to do that with it.

It's a big, heavy, evil-handling monster with a chassis design that can in no way cope with the torque and power output of the engine.

In short, it should be an absolute hoot to ride if you can afford to get it running.

It'll in all probability take a universal round headlight. If you can't get a proper instrument cluster, you could probably fit one of those little aftermarket digital dashes.

Man's bike that, get it running, check the CCT and off ya go.
Not everyone's cup of tea but they are mine, I like it.

Is the front 3.5 rim? I've used Z6 and probably a tad better a BT20F.

What size is the rear? If it's running a 18 on a 5.5 rim then you are limited. Slap a 180 55 Cobra on at £166

What a nice find and for FREE! Very Happy It would be nice to see it restored back its former glory. I would expect it could be a money pit so carefuly tot up what its going to cost in parts and roughly double it. Any less and you have done well Wink

That's quite the find. One thing I will ask is that you don't do to this what you did to your RS. These bikes are worth a notable amount of money these days, and people will pay for them if you can get it running and in good nick. Hell, you'd probably make a nice amount just selling it on as it is.

Screw that I'd happily own that even if it was a money pit. It's really old school. Make it a project. Mr. Green

Too expensive to restore to original concours condition for alot of people IMO.

I'd be well happy with that beast of a bike for nothing, who wouldn't?

TBH i'd try and scrape say £2k together, and go for a tidy clean and non original re-build, possibly using some later Honda suspension and brakes.

The engine has to be the best big air cooled 4cyl that Honda ever did too! I'd say it wouln't have the con rod issues of the 900F either, as it's not just a bored out 900, and it's the same engine overall as Honda's legendary CB1100R machines.

Sure an OEM re-build to as new condition will be what would make it desirable and valuable investment wise, but if your looking at it as a long term project and to keep hold of it for yourself, then a non std re-build with uprated parts sounds like an epic project.

I'd love to see one with recent model Fireblade forks, wheels and brakes, and a big braced alloy rear arm, and fancy twin shocks for it. That would be as great a special as something like the Suzuki GT750/GSXR1000 specials that have been made.
