I have an 07 Vivaro 1.9 CDTi. Its just had a service as the spanner symbol came on and started counting down and then the symbol with the car and spanner in it, came on. My trusty mechanic cant reset the lights. His auto data says to turn on ignition to position 2, hold down accelerator pedal and pump the brake fully 3 times. This doesnt work and hes asked about but this seems to be the only advice available. If anyone can help id be greatfull!

cheers

That is the correct procedure - try it again, in this order:
Ignition off
Accelerator to the floor
Ignition on
Still holding the accelerator, pump the brake 3 times (try 5 if that fails)

Nope that dont work! If you hold the button on the right hand stalk in and turn on the ignition that makes the dash change but no one seems to be able to do owt with that either!

You are talking about the spanner symbol in the odometer aren't you?

If there is a symbol with a picture of a car with a spanner on it elsewhere on the dash then this (IIRC) is the immobiliser. That should go out when you start the engine. It has always illuminated.

The symbol that arrow is pointing to is the immobiliser, nothing to do with car servicing.

after 18k miles as you turned on the ignition a spanner came up and a mileage reading from what i remember 1800 miles, this was counting down to zero each time you turned on the ignition. When it got to zero that light in your pic came on! That is not the dash I have BTW!

[edit] Just looked at the handbook and that light you are pointing at means the service on my van not immobilser

My (dusty) Dash!

Fair enough! Bit odd that Vauxhall have changed the meaning of that light - doesn't seem like cricket!

Looks like it still may well be to do with engine electronics.

try holding in that dusty button on your dash, press and hold both clutch and accelerator then turn on ignition, , the mileage bit should go to four lines (----) then relase button.

was like that on my meriva anyways

I had always wondered what became of the generation that grew up with cheat codes on the SNES, it looks like they all started designing electrics for the automotive industry Laughing

The car with the spanner light means it's needs to be plugged into a proper diagnostic machine for a full scan.....there's a problem somewhere.
You won't put the light out by pressing buttons on the dash, although you might by disconnecting the battery for a few mins.

You havent really been following the thread have you? These are the service lights, the small spanner comes on to let you know a service is getting near and the other one comes on as a service is needed. The van has been on a snapon and a Launch diagnostic machine and both showed no fault codes in the Ecu! The van does not have a problem, it just needs some buttons pressing which i really dont want to pay a main dealer to do!

I read fine, and work on vivaros every fucking day unfortunately.
You have one service light, the spanner in the center display.
The other lights are to do with engine emissions, and engine electronics/immobiliser.
You dont always get codes from these vans or cars using certain diagnostic tools, especially snapon...
Try it on Tech2 or Opcom/vauxcom or even Bosch kts, sometimes it helps to go in under renault trafic or nissan primastar.
There may be an oil quality that needs to be reset.
Im only trying to help and sometimes i wish i didnt bother.

Hi I have the same problem on my 08 2.0 vivaro. After it counted down to service date with spanner it then puts up the spanner with car if you havnt got it serviced in time. Personally I just changed the oil myself at 18000 then this came up Neutral

Not read the thread fully, but just for the record. To reset the service light on these correctly, you need to hold down the accelerator and pump the brake 3 times. But on the third pump, you need to hold it down until the indicator resets. Thumbs Up
