https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CBR-600-RR-5-/320968221652?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item4abb3263d4

Found this bike local to me but im unsure as to whether its a good deal as it is an older bike, Low mileage I know.

Anyone bought similar lately for the same kind of value?

Also im thinking an older bike for 6 months, maybe a year might be a good idea to learn my trade as such before getting something newer.

cheers

Danny

Why do you not want one of the 03 models? Wouldn't call them old at all.

I like mine... so much its the first bike to be garaged over winter Laughing

You can pick up the 03/04 for about 1k less than that easily.

I just want a bike! haha.

Im away working for the next two and a half weeks and I want to be able to go straight out and buy a bike so I can get out on it on the very few decent days there will be.

Something relatively close to home would be great as I will be far more comfortable on the roads I know however prices up my way seem to be a bit inflated to say the least.

Ideally I wanted an ABS model but I would be terrified of dropping 8k worth of bike while trying to get to grips with it.

That seems a bit over-priced for a 7 year old 500cc. It's £250 more than I paid last year for a 10 plate Kawasaki 650 with ABS and similar miles.
Still the heart wants what the heart wants and it's your bike you are buying. Nice looking machine though, I have to say.

There is no real need for ABS IMO. If you can't brake properly, not a good idea to ride a bike Wink

£2800 cash buys my CBR600RR right now, but I will cry hard.

Ooops. I know next to nothing about bikes other than mine, TBH. In that case, I take back my looks overpriced opinion. Get it bought.

Older bike?

OLDER BIKE?

I'd hate to know what you thought of mine. Laughing

Looks good though.

Have a look on Edinburgh Gumtree. Seen a lot down this way for decent prices. Bit of a gamble on there like ebay but gimme a shout if you need someone to have a look at a bike for you in this area. Thumbs Up

Meh. Overpriced but so are all dealers. Worth a look though, sometimes have some bargains. They do great finance deals too once you're ready for a new bike.

Found a few more possibilities and the search continues! I will have the best within the first 7 days of getting home though!

First bike? Have you just done your DAS and not really spent much time on a 125? If so, I think you're right to think about the above. Simply because, almost everyone drops their first bike once or twice. Either slow speed maneuvering on weird surfaces or similar, or just wheeling the bike around on foot.

A CBR600 is a brilliant bike. But its also covered in expensive shiny plastics. If you drop it, it will make a horrible crunchy noise, and you will cry.

My brother bought a shiny, nearly new Bandit 650 straight after his test, and 3 weeks later it needed a new bar end, brake lever, end can, and the tank fillered and resprayed. His only mistake was in parking it where it was exposed to the full force of the wind.

I would suggest buying some kind of 500 commuter thing for a bit, preferably with engine bars, until the likelyhood of bad-hill-parking/foot-slipping-on-gravel/cobbled-street-uturn etc. has diminished a bit. Even a 500 will be awesome if you've just started riding. Once you've made the silly mistakes and learned from them, then get the CBR. Just a suggestion.

Winter is coming and you'll probably drop it.

Buy a naked to throw down the road first, get that out of the way and do the actual learning to ride bit on something with a nice friendly riding position. Then buy a supersports bike in March/April.

You won't necessarily crash or drop your bike in the first 6-12 months of riding. Unfortunately though, it does happen a lot and ultimately you will probably learn more by getting a slower bike to go fast rather than something like a CBR600RR. If you must go faired, get an older one like a CBR600F or a Thundercat.

If you really have your heart set on a recent sports bike the CBR600 has the most linear, and therefore easy to use and therefore boring, power delivery of them all. It is also quite small, I felt cramped on one at 5'10". Its also the best built and not at all ugly to look at - if you really must get one then that is probably the one to go for.

I must admit, I also feel this.
