So now I have passed my test I'm looking to get a new bike. Looking at ZXR400's and similar, but as I'm new to bike I have no idea what you would really call a high milage bike?

Obviously with the much higher reving engines they're doing a lot more work/mile wear wise, so what would you call a high milage for a bike of this kind?

I've seen one near my with 37000 miles on the clock, and it's a 94, which seems high compared to others, I assume this is just because of the nature of the bike they were often use as weekend toys rather than daily riders.

I owned a ZXR400 (1992) in 2005 and bought it with 38.000 km on the clock (23.612 miles).
The mileage was normal for that time Smile

Edit: just checked it and the bike was from 1991 and bought it in 2004.

So my old bike could now have 38.142 miles on the clock (calculated Wink

Lay off the ZXR400s if you want something reliable.

Best looking 400 (not my view, but the general consensus)

Probably the most unreliable too.

Ive probably seen 20+ members on here over the years come and go, all with the same problem.

Get yourself a decent CBR400 Wink

I had a 1994 zxr 400 with about 34000 when i got it. Serviced it once and rode it for a year ( winter included ) and it never missed a beat. Did 8000 miles that year and not one real problem. Maybe i just got lucky.

Oh and its definately the best looking in my opinion Laughing !!!

170 miles a week over 18 years.... Not exactly been over used.

I do 9K a year just commuting 40 miles a day, 4 days a week and a few pleasure miles.
So in 4 years i'm upto 37 ish.

TBH. far better looking for a 600 and restricting. Get a much better bike for less cash.

Yes, why a 400. You can get a 600 for the same sort of money. Parts will be cheaper and more plentiful. Insurance will be cheaper.

My daughters NC23 is a lovely little bike but we have a Fazer that was cheaper, as reliable, as fast and a lot more comfortable Thumbs Up

My Bros 400 has 64000km on it now, and with decent servicing i dont see why it cant do that again!

Aslong as a bike has been looked after i see no reason why they cant do really high mileages, unless they have some known issue.

I've got a 30,000km FZR400 for sale, see the for sale section...

Its barely run in. All of its previous issues were down to NOT being used, rather than being used.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
