What are the latest tyres everyone is using right now, brands that are wearing well, proving to be good value for money?!

I am shortly gonna need to invest in a 120/70/17 Front and a 180/55/17 Rear, so what shall I go with?

Presently I'm running Bridgestone bt016's. whilst I have no complaints with there grip, I've found the rear has squared off heavily. My riding will consist of mainly dry riding, (not sacrificing the odd wet day tho), enough grip for sensible track work, and the odd pillion ride.

A lot of my pals are rating the dual compound tyres now, anyone got any suggestions?

They are both 2CT tyres (2 Compound Tread) the 3 is the current version, the 2 is the older version, both get rave reviews but are beaten in cold and wet conditions by Metzeler's Z8

The bigist problem with tyres is that there is so much choice, Dunlop Roadsmart and Roadsmart2 are also very good. research them and pick the one you like the look of.

My own choice... Metzeler M5, single compound with Interact technology, lasting well and more grip than I need and doesn't give the wobbly feeling that my old Dunlops did.

I got 7000miles out of a pilot road 2, got 3000 out of the M5's, chosen Michelin Power Pures this time

I thought that until I locked the front up and plumes of smoke came off them, won't be touching them again I can assure you.

Yup, dual compound. I've got the 3s after good experience with the 2s (they lasted longer than the bike!). The tread pattern is different on the front to give even more grip in the wet.

They have absolutely transformed both of the bikes I've put them on - more confidence and stability in the corners, especially the wet (I even went round the nurburgring in the rain). The fact that they appear to last longer than non dual compound is just the icing on the cake for me.

The updated bridgestone 016's are the 016 pro (which I have) and the latest S20's.

The 016 pro are a good tyre. Better than the 016's I had before and the 014's I had before them. Wet performance has been the biggest improvement with people getting knee downs in the wet. This was however on thoroughly warm tyres on a smooth track. I wouldn't recommend it on the road.

They're quite a hard construction so don't warm up quickly and the front can feel a little vague at first. This is compounded in the rain and winter. Once hot they're very good, and offer tons of grip while out classing me. They have been amazing this summer.

I will probably go with S20's next as they apparently offer more grip, better wet and warm up quicker while having the same wear rate as the 016pro's. Otherwise I'll look at the Pilot Pure 2ct's or the Power 2ct's.

I wish they did tyre test rides...

PR2s on my bike, PR3s on my OHs. When my PR2s eventually wear out, they'll be replaced with PR3s.

Superb in the wet - I'd go as far as to say the best tyres I've ever ridden on. Thumbs Up

£130 a set too!

Formerly used Bridgstones, BT45's on the GPZ, and 021's on the Bandit.
However I recently tried Maxxis SuperSport, Maxxis Touring, and Dunlop Qualifiers with quite acceptable performance

120/70/17 and 190/50/17 sizes on my 7r...

Still only £130 a set if you know where to look.

I'm currently using pirelli angel ST dual compound tyres.

They are pretty good, rear lasts about 6k, front a fair bit longer. Riding is mostly dual carriageways and a bit of town.

When my current rear dies I'll start using PR2s as they seem to last longer.

EDIT: just changed another rear - lasted 6350 miles until illegal.

If you want a budget dual compound tyre with good longevity and acceptable performance then I can't fault the Maxxi's superdiamonds. I'm going to get more than twice the mileage out of my current set than I used to get out of the Michelin Power 2CT's.

I have had BT023's on the K13S now for 7.5k and nowhere near worn out yet. Have been fine, no worrying moments, lean it right over, although I do avoid riding in the wet too when possible.

I had the original Metzler's tyres on that the bike came with (new 17 months ago) which lasted 5.5k before the rear was down to the canvas (although that did include a Euro tour of mainly twisty roads).

I do like the softer, super sticky tyres but I'd be changing them every few months as I like to get out on the bike as often as possible.

I wish I had a choice. There's only one tyre available for my bike....two, if you include the other wheel!

Metzeler M3's on mine, rear is getting low now, should get 6k out of it by the time it needs changing, so not bad mileage, very grippy tyre and feels good in the wet too. Thumbs Up Mr. Green
