I'll be honest I'm not particularly in the know about to much of the mechanical side motorbikes, but I'll try my best to explain.
I have a 2009 Honda CBF125 m9. Used to sound like any old 125 sort of a nice metallic high pitched engine note, but over the last few days its developed more a loud, "popping" sound on tick over and when reved it's noticeable louder and vibrates a lot more than normal. This is when the bike is cold, hot and everything in between. Also I have noticed it backfires a lot, often very loud this happens when stationary and riding.
I changed the oil 100miles ago and it always looked after. It has 9500 miles on the clock.
My first thoughts where gaskets or possibly the spark plug. But someone may have another suggestion.

Thanks for reading and even better if anyone can help me!

Do you have a hole in your exhaust - has the header corroded, or come loose?

Check the manifold between the carb and air filter. Could be loose or have split somehow, would explain the popping and backfiring.

The header is the pipe(s) that comes out of the engine and go to the exhaust.

When the header / exhaust join on my ER6f cracked, it had all the symptoms you have; loud noise, louder when revved, backfiring when engine braking, etc. In the wet it sounded a bit "burbly".

Good call on the header, however it was down to my poor craftsmanship. I fixed an issue with the exhaust not long back and welded it back together. My welding leaves a lot to be desired shall we say. The welded part had cracked right the way round the header and was being held on by one thin piece of weld Thumbs Up....

I've attached a picture, and ordered a new exhaust.. Hopefully my welding will last until it arrives!

Thanks your all the help guys!
