Where are you based?
Funny as the weather has behaved itself, for the most part, this week.

My instructor would not cancel a lesson unless there was proper flooding around the area we'd ride, or of course in case of snow and ice. But even with rain chucking it down hard and wind blowing us about he'd still go on with lessons. After all, it's useful to learn to ride in these conditions, and more reassuring to have an instructor behind you as well.

Is he cancelling just because of rain, or is there more going on where you're at?

We did a number of DAS lessons in some torrential rain. My Sidi Vertigo's were all I had at the time, and I still remember pouring the water out of them at the end of the lesson.
The only conditions the instructor said he would cancel for was ice or heavy snow

I think it's good experience riding in this weather, all adds to the learning curve. Thumbs Up

To clarify, the fog was an issue as the test centre was an hours ride away and the roads there were quite high. Therefore foggy, and the instructors deemed it unsuitable conditions to travel there in!

Properly gutted I was, I was all geared/psyced up and ready to rock too!

So it wasn't DSA who cancelled it but your instructor instead?
Didn't that mean you lost the fee if DSA was actually going to go ahead with the test (£15 is still £15) and did the instructor cover this?

If your current instructor doesnt like getting wet or being out in all weathers then you need a new instructor.

+1 - not everyone can be a fair weather rider 100% of the time, so varying conditions now will give you invaluable experience for the future.

If he's worried about getting soaked I'd suggest finding someone who's main concern is getting you up to test standard & not getting his tootsies wet!

I suppose they expect we will only ride when its hot and sunny. Don't be surprised if a new wet weather test ends up coming out lol.

Eh, the examiner fagged out and followed in a car. Probably shamed him into passing me. Wink

+1 to the instructor comment. You're paying to get trained to ride in UK weather.

Have you paid in full for das course? You are the one calling the shots , not them.
If they cannot fulfill their commitment I'd demand a refund - if applicable , but either way I'd seriously be looking for alternative trainer.
As you say , you have perhaps 5 weeks or so until tests & you need to be riding at set pre-arranged times or you'll never get into a settled riding regime which will not help prepare you for forthcoming tests.
Best of luck Thumbs Up

Phoned training school yesterday and they said that they never had my number...strange how i was there last Friday and gave one of the instructors my mobile number who forwarded it onto my instructor whilst i was stood there.

Good news i got a lesson for Tuesday Very Happy

They do practice at the test centre for mod 1 so i am also going to tell them to book that for me too Smile

Seems to me that they're not fussed either way - sure they are a business & someone else would will give them the business should you walk away, but this about YOU being comfortable & competent enough to sit tests & from what you've had to say about them they couldn't give a monkeys about you - claiming to not have your number when you know you have given it is a clear example of that.
I'd still be very tempted to find another trainer as - if you'll excuse the pun - they are taking you for a ride.

Best of luck Very Happy

+1 for new instructor.

No doubt they'll be on a big bike (Pan Euro'esque) with lots of fairing protection too. So no real excuse ofr them wimping out.

Today the weather seriously let me know winter is coming Sad We've had sleet up here which made things interesting.

Pulled on to the A19. 1st = wheelspin, into 2nd = wheelspin, 3rd = wheelspin, 4th = wheelspin. At that point I wimped out and sat behind a lorry at a steady 55mph. Shocked

I get the feeling it's gonna be a loooooooooooooong winter.

well finally had another lesson today it went well i was on the gladius because the suzuki 500cc is now beyond repair (thats what instructor told me) he said that they are getting another but with my mod 1 end of november i am getting worried.

The gladius is a bit heavy for me and i would prefer the 500cc.

After lesson the instructor's words to me were:

instructor: when do you want next lesson
Me: anytime (instructor looks through diary)
instructor: i will ring you
Me: ?
instructor: yep i will definately ring you

People on here have advised to find a new training school and i wonder if anyone has any recommendations of training schools near to darlington.

When I was learning to drive there was an icey day and my instructor took me out in the ice on purpose, took me to a safe area and made me practice what to do in a skid. I always remember thinking what a brilliant guy, not many people will get the opportunity to do that and it's made me a much more confident driver because of it. Mark of a good instructor I reckon, taking you out in all weathers.

When I was learning to ride I'm pretty sure my instructor wouldn't have cancelled a lesson over rain or fog or anything like that. He had a slight wobble about taking me on the motorway after I passed my Mod 2 as the weather was awful but then he saw my face and was like "Oh, ok then" - it was fine!

Pathetic that places cancel because of weather, you need to know what to do in all weather for goodness sake, especially in this country with it's tendency to change so often Rolling Eyes
