in a single season of riding I have taken the view that all two wheels are equal and as such acknowledge every biker I see.
by my reckoning,
90% of sports/tourers nod back
90% of trailies nod back
60% of peds nod back (those that don't are usually granny peds)
But I have never once had a cruiser rider acknowledge me.
how about anybody else?
is this a common trend?
any cruiser riders who do acknowledge?
Cheers

Me, me! I have to nod or raise a hand first because I've got L-plates on anyway. My bike's not a thoroughbred cruiser though really I don't think.
I've seen a couple nod or wave back, but they're not all that common really. I've had far more riders not acknowledge a nod or a wave who have been power rangers than anything else though. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

To be honest, I don't give a f&*k any more if most bikers wave back or not, unless it's a really slow speed situation like in town traffic, I make a really obvious nod, and they just ignore me. This seems similar to saying hello to someone in a pub, and them deliberately just turning away and putting their noses up.
Not that this ever happens to me in a pub of course |

Does an EL250 count as a cruiser? Cos I always nod, wave, waggle a finger or whatever.
However, i find that the opposite is true for me, most cruisers & old guys on classics acknowledge me, as do learners, but it tends to be the guys on sportsbikes who blank me.
Maybe it depends what you ride. Perhaps some only nod if you're on the same "type" of bike as them?
Or maybe it's cos the guys on sportsbikes go past so quick they don't have time for me........ ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

right I am going to experiment.
What I want to know is if ther is a definate division of ranks dependent on if you ride a cruiser or if I am simply giving the wrong signal, Maybe nod all other bikers but wave at the cruiser.
next time I see a cruiser I'll wave, and see what happens.
Cheers

Been ignored on several occasions by cruisers. I think it may have been the same grumpy old git in his pisspot lid with his high and mighty sweat stained clothing giving it: ooh look at that padding bedecked twat on his yello plastic covered teeny-weeny 600, I'm going to ignore him.

Yes, like a "Hello, fellow human who's realised the superiority of bikes!"
It's nice having that feeling of belonging to a club, as bikes are individual, they're outside the norm. We ride not just to go somewhere, but also to have fun. How many car drivers drive anywhere specifically to have fun? The only piece of traffic I feel inferior to is the 18 wheeler sat 3 feet behind my rear wheel. I might be wet and cold, but I'd still prefer to be on my bike than in a car.

Yup, the nod. A simple acknowledgement of a fellow target on today's roads. I tend to wave more than nod - it's more of an intentional movement, as a nod could simply be mistaken for windblast
I'm not bothered if I don't get a nod/wave back. If people are embarrased, they are missing out on part of the camaraderie. if they are too arrogant , I don't want them acknowledging me anyway. ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

I don't always nod, but it's not as a result of embarrassment or arrogance. If I'm riding 'properly' i haven't time to acknowledge other riders, if I'm round town and traffic's heavy, or there are a lot of pedestrians, I have more on my mind than pleasantries to fellow bikers. If I'm attending a rally, or race meet I resolve to not nod from when I set off, 'cos by the time I reach an event to which 10- 70 thousand bikers are attending, my fecking head would be ready to fall off. Don't get me wrong, I will nod, but given the focus required to stay alive, It's not a priority. ____________________ I was only doing what it said on my licence officer....

Cruiser riders don't nod back because their p1ssed off about riding big, heavy and slow bikes. Also because they are miserable fuckers who don't like 'crotch rockets'.
Truth is, I don't know

I think they wish to distance themselves from the 'Hooligan' elemennt of biking
The few cruiser riders ive talked to think of superbikers and ped bois with more money and frown upon our antics. |

I've had plenty cruisers nod at me. Always makes me grin when some big fat beardy guy on some huge chrome monster gives me a wave.
It's the individual, not what they ride - been ignored by plenty 'fellow' sportsbikers too. |

It's def the person, not the bike they ride. I've a little 250 custom and I get nodded/ignored in equal measures by sports/cruisers. I always nod if it's safe to do so.
I still remember my first trip out after passing my test and getting first nods - what a warm glow inside!
On the way back, I also got a few ignores, which kinda wiped the smile off my face!
But that's life - some peeps are nice, some aren't. |
