Do your obs so that can be noticed, cancel your indicators after turning/changing psotion and then cancel them again. Watch out for the road signs - they will be there and they will tell you everything you need to know.
Keep calm and if you go the wrong way carry on but do it safely.

Good luck!

ride as normal, don't put on a show for your examiner. Stick to speed limits, and don't worry about him, if there's a space for only you to go at a roundabout take it, it's his problem to follow you.

Your out for a ride, with a satnav. You'll ace it! Thumbs Up

The test doesn't finish till you get off the bike. Stay calm and focussed the whole time and enjoy the ride. Smile

I don't mean to worry you by any means, but don't take for granted that you've been riding every day for a year. You need to be a bit more careful, but for most people that just means paying a bit more attention to the speed limit signs Thumbs Up

I had the same problem, went for my test a year and a couple of months after passing my cbt, and riding every day. Rode at 40 on a 30-40-30 rode, every retake after that I've been extra cautious, and Teflon mike pointed out the examiners probably don't have confidence in me and fail me for something random.

I trust you do sensibly lifesavers? I kept doing those shitty 4-point checks (l shoulder, l mirror, r mirror, r shoulder) which probs gives the impression I'm putting on a show.

Ride as normal, watch for speed limits, job done Thumbs Up

Cancel your indicators twice. Once after you have completed the manouver and then again after you've changed gear Thumbs Up

yeh I see what you mean with the put on a show I when I ride around to and from collage I normally just do a left mirror to check for bikes and a right shoulder check for cars. The examiner can probably tell when people are putting on a show.

thanks for the advice, that is probably just a simple thing we all forget, not like in a car when it just does it automatic! do you know if that a minor or a serious fault?

A missed cancellation is a minor, unless it affects another road user, in which case enjoy your re-test.

Don't worry about it, just don't forget. If you're not doing anything else, cancel.

If you've not had lessons, then having an examiner nudging your tailpipe is going to be distracting. Try to stay focussed on everything except his bike. It's his job to keep up, not your job to wait for him, and whatever you do, don't try and use his bike to judge where you should be.

Understand this clearly: it doesn't matter where you go, as long as you go there safely. If you find yourself in the wrong lane for the direction you've been told to go, follow the lane, don't try and make a last minute change.

Snow would be the best thing for you, the examiner is more likely to wuss out and follow in car, which should make it a lot easier for you.

You don't have to wear a hi-vis, but I'd suggest that you do it anyway.

And most of all, enjoy it: it's just a bike ride, and the examiner wants to pass you.

yeh i have had a few MOD 1 lessons which i was given tips of for mod 2 as the off road place where I trained is a few miles away from where they training place is based. I've also got another lesson booked for Tuesday. I don't think that him following me will bother me to much as my dad tends to follow me fairly close too (don't know why).
Thanks for clarifying the indicator issue for me, I feel like a right turnip if I make that miss take.
Cheers for all the advice.

I had a few minors on my test, once for not cancelling the indicator (he had to remind me, but I was lucky, there was no other road users around and the road was dead straight with no turnings), following too close in traffic and missing a speed limit sign (NSL, so I was still doing 30 along a dual carriageway Rolling Eyes ).

Other than that, it was a breeze. Slightly more pressurised than a normal ride, but the sat nav was just that, a sat nav. I think it actually helped that I didn't know the Macclesfield area at all. So I was more observant than I would have been if I'd have taken the test in Northwich.

Hope it goes well. Watch out for low flying broomsticks Twisted Evil

Couple of things to add:
1. Unlike car examiners the bike examiners are also bikers and they really do want to see safe new bikers on the road.

2. Your lane is divided into the three positions:
P1 left of the lane,
P2 centre of the lane (normal position) and
P3 right of the lane (as if turning right).

Make a shoulder check each time you are going to change from one to the other or cross the carriageway. Make the check in the direction you are going to move to. Simple. Very Happy
