Hello, my name is Mark Maduli and I'm a third year uni student at De Montfort University in Leicester.
This post is in regards to a Motorcycle theft survey
- for my final year major project. The reason why I've made this survey is so that I can find out any
trends or patterns in terms of motorbike thefts around
the UK.
If you know anyone not on this site who owns a motorbike, please share it with them
( tell them to fill it out too) and of course you who is reading this.
Please fill it in! https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VNQ2GHW - All help is appreciated, and you're
responses will be kept anonymous.

Also, there's a flaw in your survey. The first category of engine size ends at 100cc, and the second category starts at 200cc.

There are a lot of statistics that you'll be missing out on, lad.

you might want to include sub £1000 bikes and some avenue for those of us lucky enough to have had more than one bike stolen. It also doesn't take into account where you park the bike, time of day stolen, whether stolen from home or a place of work or any other factors really, in fact why bother when everything you are asking for can be found out relatively easily without asking people.

Wonder if OP even owns a bike... Laughing

Price starts at £1000-£10000
Well, my 125 cost me £800 - no option for that

The second price option is £11000 - £15000
Well, that's the kind of price for a brand new R1

So all over price options seem pointless.

Type of motorcycle... very limited choice... at least there is an "other box" for me to type Sport Tourer.

CC seems out too. Okay, 50-100cc, hits a few bikes.
Then OP presumes there is nothing between 100 and 200 cc. Incrementing it like a car's CC maybe.

Security is missing options like alarms, the brands used, the size of chain used.

Survey is also missing other critical things like:
- cover used
- is garaged/locked up in a shed
- left on street

Also, why does my gender and age play a role? This is obviously redundant data. What can you say "If you're 26 you're more likely to have your motorbike stolen than if you're 18"?

OP, you've missed out a lot of research. You'll get sod all useful information from that survey!

I don't live in any of these regions, the UK isn't just England. Clearly anyone from Scotland, Wales, NI or any British Islands will never suffer from bike crime.

Your price bands are completely ludicrous. Probably 80% of bikes will be in the first bracket, maybe 15% in the second, quite apart from the fact that they are missing the range 10,000-11,000.

You should break up "scooters and commuters". Scooters, sportsbikes, street bikes like Hornets etc., are all used as commuters.

We've had two 125cc scooters stolen. There is no category in your survey to put these in - they are not 50-100, and they are not 200-400.

The final question on security is ambiguous; does it relate to my current security, or the security I had available at the time of the theft, or the security that was actually applied to the bike at the time of theft?

The obvious half-assedness of the survey design prevents me from completing it.

The survey's terrible. I just filled it out with crap because it is crap. Please just wipe your results clean, re-design the survey properly and then re-run it. Explaining in your project why your first survey was so shit and why you had to re-design it would probably gain you marks.

Thank you all for the feedback, I'll have the survey re-worked to ensure that there are no flaws next time.

I suppose, I should have asked whether this survey was worth releasing to the public before actually releasing it.

Again, thank you anyway.

I would have done it....however as with most people who use Survey Monkey they don't have a clue how to create surveys...he would have got a completely unrealistic survey and made the wrong conclusions....and probably failed his degree!

Also pissing off a load of bikers is never really clever either! Shocked Rolling Eyes

Another dire survey full of terrible options that miss the bigger picture.

Good job champ. I do wonder about these graduate wannabes when they don't even have common sense.

PS Leicester is shit Wink

He's the last person I'd ask for assistance with a survey.

Should be in for a good career in local government.

Better; do some research first.

Presuming this wasn't an elaborate fake intended to discredit someone by the name you used.
By the third year of a degree, students really should have a better grasp of the basics!
