I ride a 2011 Z100 for which I paid £211 for insurance about 9 months ago, with 5 years no claims.
I am now also buying an SH300 scooter for my daily commute and my current insurer will not do multi bike, and I don't want to cancel and start again as nearly got another years no claims.
My cheapest fully comp quote is £221! I simply do not understand why you can't count NCD on more than one policy, surely you've either made a claim or not, it's ludicrous
I tried Gocompare, Comparethemarket, The Bike Insurer, Elephant... £221 is the cheapest.
Any suggestions please? ____________________ Current: '07 Suzuki SV1000 & '07 Honda SH300i (again).

Get a monthly pay-as-you-go policy with someone like ebike for the scooter, let it run for 3 months til your main policy runs out then go for a multi-bike for both bikes using your full NCD. ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Thanks but no can only drive/ride a vehicle not owned by yourself on 3rd party so can't do that unless I register it to someone else.
I liked the pay as go idea, just got a quote though of £87 a month so that's a no go! ____________________ Current: '07 Suzuki SV1000 & '07 Honda SH300i (again).

I simply do not understand how that makes insurers more money.
NCD is what they say it is, and no more. Don't strain your logic-lobe trying to find sense in it. |
Well it obviously makes them more money because it's a lot cheaper with NCD. If I enter 5 years on the scooter it lowers it to £104, but I can't as that NCD is already on the Z1000 policy, so already it's making them £117 more. ____________________ Current: '07 Suzuki SV1000 & '07 Honda SH300i (again).

I pay 200 third party only, 2 years NCD
May be worth comparing GTS250. Similar performance albeit with much smaller wheels, but the quotes I get for that are 30% lower. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

Cheers that's going to be my best bet, though I'm not having much luck finding one that doesn't charge a fee. Found a few that do cars only, just no bikes as yet. ____________________ Current: '07 Suzuki SV1000 & '07 Honda SH300i (again).

This can work in your favour too. If you had an accident on 1 policy, you still keep the no claims on the separate one. I dont know the legality of this but I wouldnt even bother informing another policy provider if I had an accident that didnt involve them.
No claims discount is earned from consecutive years of paying out for a policy. When you take out a separate one, you have to start those consecutive years all over again. Otherwise its like saying you've never claimed off your house insurance so you should get a discount on some other insurance. In your case it counts as 2 completely different insurances for what is essentially the same thing. They are bastards like that. ____________________ I am usually naked when posting to this forum. |

What actually happens is that, using the example of insuring a bike and a car cos it makes it easy to understand:
You insure both under separate polices and build up 2 lots of NCD, one for bike and one for car.
Say you then have a fault accident in your car.
You advise your car insurer and they investigate, pay out the other party. Depending on a number of factors you may then lose some or all of your NCD on that policy.
When you renew your car policy (assuming its not a total loss, when you insure a new vehicle if it is) you will find that you will pay more cos your premium has gone up and your NCD has gone down - YOU LOSE.
When you next renew your bike insurance, one of the things you have to declare is ANY accidents or claims in the last x years. So you have to declare your car accident. You will find that although your bike NCD has stayed the same or even increased your premium will have gone up considerably so guess what? YOU LOSE.
It's all loaded in favour of the insurance companies. Don't declare the car accident to your bike insurer and you run the risk of having any claim on it refused, or your policy cancelled.
Let me put it another way. No matter how many different NCDs you build up on any of your policy, if you have a fault claim at any time YOU LOSE.
Even if you protect your NCD, come renewal time your NCD may stay the same but your premium will go up so YOU LOSE.
Numbers example. Lets say you have a car and a bike, 6 years NCD giving 50% discount on each.
Year 1 car premium is say £500, less 50% NCD for 6 years, you pay £250. Happy days.
Year 1 bike premium is say £250, less 50% NCD for 6 years, you pay £125. Happy days.
You crash into someone in your car, your insurers pay out to them and reduce your NCD by 3 years, lets say 3 years gives you 30%.
Year 2 car premium is loaded by 30% cos of the claim so now it's £650, less 30% NCD for 6 years, you pay £455. Not happy.
Year 2 bike premium is increased by 30% due to your claim so now it's £325, now you have 7 years NCD lets say that gives you 55%, you pay £146.25 this year. Not Happy.
Sorry for the Teffers-sized post, I guess the TL;DR is when it comes to dealing with insurance YOU LOSE!! ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Cheers I appreciate the offer but I think I will just keep things simple and insure it myself until March then cancel. I've thus far had no luck finding anyone who will not charge a cancellation fee. ____________________ Current: '07 Suzuki SV1000 & '07 Honda SH300i (again).
