hi all im kev 42 from lincolnshire been riding small bikes since i was 16 currently riding a honda dylan 125 using it daily for work

Anyway i have decided to do my test, looking at doing it spring/summer next year. I like the idea of a touring bike im not remotley intrested in sports bikes, im 6ft 3in and weigh about 15 stone with my wife being similar build ,she fully intends on coming on the back and doing some touring. So what i would like is some advice on bikes please have been told i carnt go wrong with a bandit for a first (big) bike it will be used daily to work and back too a 20 mile round trip dont like the look of the naked bandit though. Any ideas please Smile

Hi Kev.

Pics of Amazonian wife would help us recommend a bike... Whistle

First, what's your budget? Do you have any particular age ranges in mind, or upper or lower capacity limits?

No sports bikes. Is that because of the performance characteristics, or the plastic?

OK, what about a Yamaha Diversion 900? Shaft drive, half faired, should take 30 stone, you'll find it hard to find one that doesn't come with luggage already on it. I'd suggest looking for reasons not to get one of those, then that would help narrow down what you might like.

Divi is a good starting point, as is a TransAlp - Oodles of torque. Smile

Have a look at the on road adventure bikes as well.

Triumph Tiger
Honda Varadero
Suzuki V Strom
Kawasaki Versys
Yamana Tenere
Various BMW's

All available with luggage. The ones I have ridden are pretty comfortable as well.

Thanks for the replys so far guys, im not sure weather to buy new or second hand. As its my first big bike dont you think a 900cc might be a little to big ??? just dont like the sports bike at all like i said would like to do some touring on it and the thought off being sat "hunched" over a bike dosn't appeal. Maybe a on road adventure bike would suit my height better what are they like to tour on. Confused

My Amazonian wife Shocked lol is now toying with the idea off doing her test with me too she has rode small bike before too.

Intreasting that nobody has mentioned the bandit ???

Superb. I have had various touring bikes. Goldwings, a 900divvy. VFR750, busa & ZZR1100 (sports touring). Tiger 955 and now a Tiger Explorer with all the luggage. I do a lot of European touring & I love the riding position of adventure bikes.
