The frame is way too heavy to do my usual method of hanging stuff off the garage ceiling or the washing line, so we used a couple of ladders and a plank of wood.

There were so many bits that needed a splash of primer that i just ended up spraying the whole thing.

Repainted the storage boxes too, the masking tape for the voskhod logos made a convenient handle for opening the lids whilst painting.

Done the small front panel in the same cream as the rack. This is the panel that feeds the carb intake from the airbox. There ahouls be a 'n' shaped cover that encases the carb in front of this but its missing.

Ive ordered everything we should need for replacing all the cables too. Bought a couple of these universal cable repair kits

Been doing some more, painted the engine, fork lowers, shocks, handlebars, exhaust and top yoke. Ive got photos but haven't got round to uploading them yet.

In the meantime this is what the 6v alarm batteries look like. We're planning to use two of them in series to provide 12v. These will go where the airbox was and we might try to find a pancake air filter to go straight on the carb.

Also got a new Horn. The old (black one on the left) horn is broken. The new one is a vespa 6v horn which looks nice but unfortunately these things are total crap as a horn. Basically only serves the same purpose as a little bicycle bell, not good enough for modern roads. So we might see about fitting a 'normal' louder horn somewhere hidden and keep this one in the right place on the headlight bowl.

The foam is good too but do you think I can salvage the vinyl??? . Planning on sending it off to a place that I've had a new seat from before.

I can recommend this company in Thailand who did my old Puch seat cover:

If you mail them on the link at the bottom of their ebay page they are very helpful. All i had to do was send my old seat cover off to them, they made a new one as an exact match inc. the decals on the back and sent it back all within 2 weeks.

I think all in all it was about £20 for postage and they made the seat for free (so they can keep the pattern and sell on again on ebay)

Great way of getting a new seat cover for a rare bike and the quality was great

This is the inside of the rear chain enclosure. The drum braking surface is part of the rear sprocket rather than the wheel hub.

This is the Russian chroming for you. One fork leg has fairly good chrome, the other is totally fucked. Its almost like the master chromer did one leg to show his apprentice how to do it then fucked off to the pub and left the idiot to do the rest.

This is how the throttle works. the bars have a slot cut out of them in which a slide moves up and down. The cable enters the bars further up at the bend. there is a shallow spiral inside of the grip so as you twist the spiral draws the slide out.

Carbs a carb is a carb! If it works, do it .
I had an old field bike Suzuki ts 250 and I had an Amal carb on that and it worked fine .

Why? have you got a spark plug in a hole in the side casing???, is there something about Russian bikes we in the West dont know .

Parts are hard to find, luckly i have sourced a complete headlamp with everything in it, missing the left hand downpipe and lockrings so this is more my longterm project.

I think I found your Voskhod thread when we first bought ours.

I've seen a couple come up on ebay since, but they've been too far away for me to bid on, otherwise I'd have snapped them up. One was a minty green another dark blue. They def came in some funky colours.

We are thinking of asking to get a replacement lockring made at a local engineering place. I bought a villiers engine lockring to try but although very very similar it just doesn't fit.

Thanks for the parts website, I'm pretty tempted by the K65 carb and the folding kickstart. Other parts look right, but some of them are subtlety different but probably interchangeable (cylinder head for example)

Me, I have a 1976 Jawa 634 350 twin which is a lot more common and I cant find parts for love nor money??? , alright money but silly money.
I`m going to have to use non standard parts on mine, but thats not to much of a big deal.

This is probably breaking some stupid copyright rules, but since it's from 1974 I think anyone who cares might not notice.

This is a review of the Voskhod 175 from December 1974 edition of Motorcycle Sport Magazine. Got it off ebay for a few quid.

Even though the Voskhod was obviously the bottom end of the market its nice to read a fairly level headed review.

This shows just how many parts are missing from my bike. - Legshields, screen, carb cover, bottom frame panels. Cylinder head, badges and seat are different as well.

Slowly getting there.....Stripped and painted the exhausts. This is about 3-4 coats of BBQ paint. Should bake itself nicely once they are on there with the engine running.

Also cleaned up the carb a bit. It was leaking badly when we got it. Should be ok now.
The main problem is the original needle was missing (it still ran fine before we even noticed it was missing). The needle in it here is just one from a Kawasaki KC100 mikuni carb. It doesnt fit well at all, but we'll see how things run and work it our from there.
The carb is stamped K36, the ones available from Minskparts.com are K65's which seem to be the ones fitted to the Voskhod-3 and larger IZH Jupiter &Ural bikes.

The 'Fuel Supply Corrector' (choke) was completely blocked, managed to get it clear eventually - it's the jet on the right in this picture. Its controlled by the two piece needle shown in the parts laid out above. The idea apparently is that it's not just a choke for starting, but a sort of boost lever to help you get up hills with a little extra fuel or turn down the fueling when you're cruising. The main jet isnt in there in this picture so the hole looks far bigger than it actually is.
